"Nasal Irrigation" is the shizzle
I have sinus trouble during the winters now that I live in the godforsaken northeastern part of the country. Bloody snot and boogers are daily niceties I enjoy, and I get sinus infections whenever the weather fluctuates.
I have found relief. Nasal irrigation is where you squirt salt water up your nose to wash out all the gunk using a nasal aspirator, or infant snot sucker. This will have preferably been unused prior to employing it as a nasal irrigator. Step 1: Fill a container with warm salt water. The water shouldn't be any hotter than what you would want to squirt up your nose. I use shower water. The mixture is about 1 teaspoon to two cups of water. You can add baking soda if you can't handle the burn. Step 2: Stand in the shower. Step 3: Fill the bulb with water. Turn it upright and squirt all the air out and resuck up some more water to replace the air. Step 4: Stick it up your nose and tilt your head down. Squirt. You can vary the squirting force according to your comfort level. Advanced irrigators can use more force. Step 5: Exhale through your mouth. Water will run out your other nostril and out your mouth. Step 6: Repeat for the other nostril. |

Been doing this for years during allergy season. I use a plain squirt-top water bottle, though, but then I have a large schnozz.

eew... Why not just take a decongestant? Nothing works? Saw a guy in a parking lot once laying on the front seat of his truck with his head hanging out of his pickup drinking 7-up. It all came out of his nose. Think he had the same problem you do. sucks...

Because decongestants don't actually clean anything out... it all just hangs in there awaiting the graces of gravity or a good, powerful blow.
With allergies especially, it largely rids the sinus of any sort of offending particles, and as a bonus, is ridiculously cheap and easy to do.

I gotta try this. I had surgery for a deviated septum and tubernate reductions a couple years ago because of all the blockage and difficulty breathing - worked great. Then I moved to an area that is a nightmare for allergies because of local farmland, fields, and swirling wind in the bowl this town sits in that stirs everything up. Now with my surgically opened sinus I can suck in 10x more crap & I'm back to stuffy, sniffing nose again because fo the allergies.

Ill have to try this. I have bad sinus issues in the winter. I get very congested but can't take decongestants because they make my sinus' burn and don't even clear me up. I have started using a steam machine to do steam treatments and use a powerful humidifier when I sleep.

Reminds me I need to do this more often as I'll get a sinus infection about every 45 days like clockwork. Oh man if you've ever had sinus surgery and get to the point where they have you start irrigating....
The blood clots work their way out and I'm not talking little scabs. Big long gelatinous blood that you have to pull out the rest of the way by hand.

My wife has had sinus problems for years. She uses this regularly. I also use it when I have a sinus infection, and want to clear the 'junk' out of my nose. (Think of it as a waterpik for your sinuses)
![]() We usually make our own saline solution with a mixture of salt and baking soda, it works great.

I use a Neti Pot. Kind of like a teapot for you nose. In one nostril and out the other. Then trade sides. Then blow out the clingons.

It ain't exactly cheap - $97. here is a link... http://www.alerg.com/page/A/PROD/SST...FTE1JAod7llngg Before that, we had a regular waterpik with a nose attachment. this works a little more consistently than the waterpik, though.
