How to shorten your High Angle Driveline at Home!

Ok, let's say that you've just installed your dual cases and your driveshaft is now any overly long piece of worthless scrap and California is isn't exactly a day drive. What to do?

1. Plug in the trusty chop saw. And have at it.
2. Stand back and hope this works because your "new" driveshaft shakes the truck apart at 25 mph. I hope it works so this damn truck will finally leave my house.
3. Take your die grinder and remove the tube that's pressed and welded onto the cv.
4. Clean up the open end of the tube for the cv to be pressed back in.
5. Oh, yea, don't forget to measure before that first chop saw cut. Would be no good to cut it shorter than u need.

6. We want to get all the help we can with the press fit. So the cv goes in the freezer while the driveshaft tube gets propped in front of the space heater. Running the heater wide open helps and so does a little extra heat from some kind of "torch". Don't forget to stroke it.
7. Tap the cv back into the tube. Key part is to make sure it's square, in phase, and the right length. So remember to keep track of all that before step 1.
8. Once it looks good tig the damn thing together.

9. Reinstall the new driveshaft back in the truck.
10. Take for test drive.

It turned out driving vibration free up to 65 mph or so and it's very street worthy. It's that damn easy.
Peace Out

Bill,
Haha! Thanks for pointing that out. I'll have to say something to Clay about HIS practices! I think you must be talking about his hat, because I'm only in the welding pic. However, it's very funny you said that because if you HAD'VE seen the hat I was wearing that day you'd probably poop your pants. =] I'll have to save that one for the next write up.

jesse sounded a little suprised that 1: his new d-shaft shook the bejeesus out of my truck and, 2: we chopped up one of his shafts and got it vibe free!!! high-angle driveline??? how about MY-angle-driveline!! hehe... and wtf is wrong with my hat???

that corner for the chop saw has been, and always will be the flamable liquid storage corner, too. how else do you expect us to have fun? you haven't seen the dumb shit we do with brake cleaner...

In all fairness, this is not a slam on jess but just a little fun with the situation. He has been fantastic with fixing the new driveshaft by having it shipped to and fro at no charge as well as balancing it at no charge. Jess is the man, we know his d'shafts rock, and he brings great driveline products to our sport. But it was fun hacking up one of his shafts for the temporary fix/trail spare.
