For use as a boat Anchor they might work deciently IF you have a very small boat, like say a canoe...
But thats just my opinion.

<<Home depot used it's massive buying power to coerce Rigid into making tools for Home Depot that are made in China and are just enough different that you won't be able to get parts for them anywhere. >>
This is what I have heard. Just my opinion, but i would buy American when it comes to tools.

You really can't go wrong with a Milwaukee or Porter Cable. I have a Ridgid chop saw that I've used for 4 years, no problems, but that was way before the cheap feeling stuff they're selling now.

My chop saw kicks ass. Its beefy and was the same price as milwaukee but had features I liked better.

Ridgid makes great hand tools, wrenches, pipe threaders, and outher stuff. Would like to try their power tools. But Craftsman makes great hand tools, don't care for their power tools.

I have a ridgid chopsaw and like it. But th main reason I bought it over something else @ the depot is I was told that Ridgid stuff has a lifetime warranty, but I have yet to try and use it?????

Not true, we have several Rigid dry cut chop saws at work. The fitters do not treat them kindly and are used evey day. They all have been trouble free for several years.
But Home Depot does not sell the Rigid dry cut chop saw, so there may be a difference in the Home Depot line of tools.

My wife bought a Rigid dry cut chop saw at home depot for my birthday (back in March). Maybe they just started selling them recently (within the last 4-5 months)?
I am happy with it, although it hasn't seen a huge amount of use yet, mostly small stuff.

Bought the Recipricating saw, with the lifetime warranty they offered up to Jan31, 2004. So far it kicks fawking ass, and if I break it, I'll go get a new one at HD.

Check out these boards for more info. http://www.ridgid.com/cgi-bin/ultima...ubb=forum;f=18 (including warranty info). I've worked with and own various brands of power tools and I stand by my statement. |
