I'd like to see TALL ones - ie, ones that can go up like 3ft in the air..
![]() Anything higher than say the 6ton HF ones would be a good start!

That would be nice, I just bought the HF 6 tons today. Had to use blocks under them.

Welded angle to the HF specials:
but I also like the idea of just welding them to old wheels. note the ones in the pic have WAY more extension available, they're only open to like the 2nd notch, but I'm now limited by how high my floor jack can take a vehicle.

No pics, but I went to a friends house who had the regular jack stands welded to a set of 15" steel rims. Very stable and gave the added height to work on lifted trucks.
EDIT: Guess this qualifies as "old wheels"

These look go to me. Tall & strong. They belong to Logjam-grant.
Didn't someone make some adjustable stands something like this with some 1" threaded rod?

father n law was an airplane mechanic and has some super tall jack stands I was thinking of using - but for my needs the tall version of the HF jacks has done great, and for the price not worth breaking out the welder!

Not really a jackstand but a friend built this to work on the under side of his z. I was very skeptical when he told me about it but it was VERY sturdy and the car would not budge

Here is what we use...and they are stout. They work great for holding up frame snouts.

Figured I would bring this back up to add the ones I built.
Base is 2' of 2" pipe with 3 1" supports. 2" .120 inside of that. 1" allthread is supported by some 1 1/4" .120, and a couple small 1 1/2 and 1 3/4" sleeves to keep the allthread centered. Welded a washer to a nut and another washer to the tube, then welded the bent plate to the top of the allthread. Welding magnets held the tube in place and square to tack the supports on. Still have a little left to do, straps to tie the supports together and handles, maybe removable so I can turn it with a wrench if there isn't enough room for the handles. Thinking of threading a bolt into the top of the base piece so I can tighten up the slop. Fully extended, it can move about 2" side to side. Max height - 58 1/4" Min height - 25 3/4"

This set is mine, made 8 other sets for guys with tubeframe race car chassis so they could get them up in the air and leveled out good. Mostly made from cutoffs of 1.75"x.120 DOM for the main tube and HREW for the legs. The center piece is 1.5x.250 with an adjustable threaded end. What I really like about them is there is very little play at all so when they're up high it's still hardly any movement side to side.
Tell ya what Seabass, I can make ya a set and do some trading.

Yeah, check out the one on the left. Allready has the handles. And it has already lifted a couple rigs off the ground from just turning the handle. Has about 9" of lift from the allthread.

I bought these from a welding supply, but I love 'em. I can lift the front of my heavy chevy by turning the t-handles. They're called black jacks. For smaller stuff and axles I use HFs on rockwell drum covers.
