Oregon - Nov. Vote No #34 Or we will loose the Tillamook St. Forest

Cross posts are not cool but not many of us roam the Land Use area:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=271355

IF YOU LIVE IN OR NEAR OREGON or ever wish to run the Browns Camp area like the "Crusher's" (up and coming big rocks in OR) read this and vote NO in Nov. on 34. Scary as this is this will be on the ballot this year.

Cruiser related since this is where The Cascade Crusiers host the TLCA run "Cruisin' the Woods".

If anyone has questions on this please let me know. This will be a major fight for everyone in the Pacific North West. If you have never gotten fired up about an issue before, this is the one. IF ANYONE SLEEPS ON THIS WE WILL LOOSE.

Dog Walker: What is an appropriate way to share this to other areas on the board? If this thing passes the Pacific North West will loose the most widely used off road area.

Mark Hawley
President
Cascade Cruisers, Inc.
Portland, OR
A TLCA Club

Yes the same ballot. The Cascade Cruisers will have a voter registration both set up at the Cruisin' the Woods. Otherwise hit the post office and fill out the short form right there and drop it off. (Library too)

I am expecting to hear back from SEMA on Monday. I will share what I find out then. Can you just imagine what it would be like if this thing passes!

I dont think many people wheel in oregon compared to other places. That just means all of us have to vote against it.

Mark I am already registered thanks though. Did you post this on anyother boards (Snort, timbercrawler etc,.) where there maybe more Oregon wheelers?

Either way this will also affect those that ride motorcycles, ATV’s, horses heck just riding a freaking Mt. bike in TSF. Thing is groups like this do not stop once they start to get successful with their addenda. This moves on to other areas in the state then eventually in to other states. As I said before sleep on this now and we will be locked out of our publicly owned lands, asking permission to use our forests.

Justin, Thank you for your support on this. I hope every OR truck owner or person with a friend or relative that lives in OR sees these posts. I will find out more info on the official Vote NO on 34 campaign this next week. Once I find out more information on this I will certenly share ways for people out of the area can help.

Eric, Not yet I put this up on the Cascade Cruisers board, POR and ih8mud, for now. Once I know more of the official battle plan I will even hit the boards on the other side of the issue. (All ready signed up to get the propaganda from the muffin heads that started this. Trust me their next meeting I will be at as well, mainly data collecting.) I am already planning on taking this to the Oregon Teachers union and various OR education groups in the state. Since this plan if passed will shoot a huge hole in the education fund, I think these other groups will get on board. The big trick for us is the reach the people who don’t have any direct connection to TSF. After all people that live 200 miles away will be voting on this, what do they care if it gates go up. What does an elderly person care if the gates go up? It a matter of figuring out how these people with be effected and making sure they understand the big picture and not just the 50/50 BS this group is trying to sell.

Man I get so pissed when I really start too think about this!

Help me out.... Why would you vote for this? Who would vote for this? Maybe we can get some thoughts together in this thread about who to talk to. I have some major gun enthuisits (sp?) at my work here. I am going to talk to them since the gun quarry is up there. Maybe we can rally them?

Who would be on our side that we need to notify?
Motorcyclists
ATV riders
Gun enthusists
4 wheelers

Other groups are Mt. Bikers and Equestrians

The “Rain Forest Coalition” is not pointing out the fact they have holes in their plans bigger than Oregon. Their propaganda is called the 50/50 plan, 50% for logging and recreation and 50% for watershed and forest protection. They claim the plan will help schools from timber sale review, they claim the balance will better the forest for all. Sounds good but it’s a full load of crap. First off this will hurt Oregon Schools since their will be a reduction in logging. They say 50% for logging but no way are a bunch of muffin heads going to log half of the forests. (Crap I would not want that myself!) The 50% for logging means they will take the 100% available now for public use and modern use of forest products. (logging and reforestation of small select areas over many, many years.) In addition if this passes they will designate their own team called “Independent Research Scientific Team” or IRST. The IRST people will get full control and have the only say in how our publicly owned forest will be used. No plans are on the table showing what they really have in mind. On top of this not plans are in place to pay this team, only it will come out of timber sales. Yet nothing is planed to cover any budget short falls….. but the Oregon Tax payers. These guys think they can scrap a program that took the Oregon State Forestry Dept. OSFD years to develop and do it better with their plan concocted over tofu sitting naked in a natural hot spring. The OSFD has been doing this stuff for years and have the real credentials to do the job. Ignoring what they have put in place and have working simply because they think they can do it better is a pipe dream.

Mark,

I offered before and I'll offer again. If there is anything I can do to help by writing letters please let me know. So this would also cut into the State Forest Fees too, right? I mean the $10 we paid for the OHV sticker would disappear right?

I will keep you posted once I know more info on how we are fighting this thing. I am sure there is a way pepole no in OR can help. The OHV sticker is good for the whole state for areas open, so I am sure that program would stay. Just that in the TSF gates would most likly go up and the area closed if this passes.

Outstanding news! I finally found the formal lobbyist group that is backed by the Oregon Timber association. This will be a professional campaign against measure 34 w/ TV and Radio ads and media events. YES! This is exactly what we needed. Here is their web site the explains just how terrible this proposed piece of legislation is!
http://www.keepstateforestsworking.com/

Everyone with Oregon ties, this does not mean the fight is over, we will need everyone to help spread the word how this measure will hurt the health of Oregon’s forests and economy.

No On 34 this November 2nd!

Mark

This is an old thread that I just went and found as a reminder. Good Idea on the sticky... I asked for it when this thread first started, Jeff must have not looked at this thread. I will PM him.

Justin thank you for your F/U on this!

OUSTANDING! Thank you Jeff for stickying this.

The battal for this is still on, the Tillamook Rainforest Coalition (Also calling themselves “Oregonians for a balanced Tillamook” ) are really pumping out the propaganda. They are claiming the NO on 34 campaign is telling lies just to protect their big timber $$’s. The whole lie thing is unfounded since Sate Economists are showing hard numbers on just how bad this will hurt Oregon’s economy. The real lie is crack pipe idea that taking two state forests away from the control of the Oregon State Forestry dept. will be better for Oregon.

This is where we come in. We don’t work in the timber industry (most of us anyway) we just enjoy using our public forest. We responsibly wheel in it and donate time and $ to keep the trails maintained. We teach others the value of tread lightly and that you can have a blast w/o hurting the area we play in. On top of this we are side by side with the Mt. Bikers, Equestrians, ATV and motorcycles that also enjoy using the same public lands. Please tell your friends and family in Oregon to talk with others and spread the word NO on 34 is for all of Oregon and not just the timber industry.

I have a limited number of NO on 34 bumper stickers, please shoot me a PM if you will display one. If I run out I will cut some custom window stickers out of vinyl as well. If you have a window space in a store I can also get you posters as well.

Bottom line:
NO on 34! In Oregon this November
