Kate 6.0 Buildup Thread

Here is the teardown thread

Now, here is the buildup information.

All the custom tube work is being done by www.jkcustoms.com in Austin Texas.

Jason has jumping into this process with both feet.

I got an email from him saying that my frame is broken and bent so bad, he cannot find a straight point to make his measurements off of.

Wonder why?

The truck is all DOM this time. .120 and .095 mostly. 1.75", 1.5" and 1" stuff. The sliders/boat sides are some thick crap since I trashed the .120 stuff I had before. The boat sides are to be lined with .5" black cutting board stuff.

The vertical supports under the cowl are just there to keep it upright and level. The boat sides flare out only 1.5" per side wider than the side of the cowl. That is mainly for looks. We did not want it as wide as a Cruiser flares, but also did not want it board straight.

Here is the A pillar, halo and the rear main support. Wheelbase and overall length will still be 110" and the rear is now going to be 35" wide instead of 30" wide.

I am going to a 10 gallon fuel cell so I can mount my powertank next to it in the rear behind the kid seats.

The frame was cracked, still a little twisted, and about a 1/4 inch Higher on the rear Passanger side. The truck also leans to that side too. This makes it hard to get a starting point...

Side rails are a .134 wall DOM.

The pass side sits higher because there is usually no one on that side of the truck. Its safer to watch him than ride with sometimes...

What up Nolen???

Is JK Customs the place that did the chopped top on a FJ55?
If so, the work they do looks most excellent!

I like the cage design. I think I missed your plans mentioned before. Do you intend on installing a Cruiser FJ40 tub, however altered, or are you going to have sheet metal built around the cage, to include a floor that mates with the cowl section? Looks like the answer is obviously the latter, but I wanted to hear the specifics from you.

I remember that you plan on attending Rubithon next year. Is 10 gals enough fuel for such thru trails? And what about a families's worth of camping gear storage space. Just curious how you plan to handle wheeling without a base camp to return to each day. No need to address this stuff. I'm just a trail rig kinda wheeler.

Where did you get those mog 9`s ?
And can someone post some pics of the 55 pig here or in another thread, or send me some?
I would like to put a FJ55 body (shortened) on one of the newer 1 ton diesel trucks(ford, dodge, chevy, shortened) and make it my DD and my tow rig.
Thanks

It will be all sheet metal skins. Floor will be aluminum in the interior.

It will be less and less Cruiser unfortunately. I am just too hard on sheet metal that cannot be replaced. I am down to the top curve of the cowl and the dash. My goal is to have a rig that can take lots of rolls and still be able to be cleaned up nicely.

Rubithon. No sweat. First off, this is the new Family Crawler, and there will be MUCH more room in it than with the 45 tub. Same wheelbase, just a better design for room. If I were to go on a Rubithon type run, I would use the roof, which is going to have a full aluminum top and if the kids did not come, the kid seat is going to be removable and lots and lots of gear will fit where those two seats go.

As for gas, I ran my rig hard for 3 1/2 days in Johnson Valley on 15 gallons. I ran out of gas on the way back from the last trail. The LT-1 gets excellent fuel economy. As for around here, 10 gallons is more than enough, since there is no where I wheel away from the trailer overnight.

I can go through a few more versions, 6.1-6.9 but going to another generation? There is nothing left to cut off at this point
