FJ80 on Tacoma: 3-link question

I'm busy swapping in an FZJ80 front axle on my Taco. I've got 14" travel coilovers and 37" tires. I'm almost at the point where I have to start working on the 3-link. This may sound a little wishy washy, but I initially just wanted to stick with radius arms, then realized that won't work and thought about a
4-link. Now, it looks as if the best setup for me is going to be a 3-link with panhard keeping the tie-rod on the back of the axle. I know a few of you guys have a similar setup.

I read in the tech articals on http://4wheeloffroad.com/techarticle...131_0307_link/ that the space between the upper and lower link mount on the axle have to be 8-11" apart in order to prevent axlewrap. This sounds a little excessive seeing that I have limited space under there with the exhaust pipe and because I somehow have to clear the tie-rod going on top and over it. What are you guys running for space? What would be the absolute minimum?

Thanks. Gary

At the moment I hardly have time to eat, but as soon as I'm done in about 3 or 4 weeks, I plan on posting all the pics and do a bit of a write-up.

I know "Homegrown" has done a 3-link where they ran the upper link from the diff to the passenger side frame. Just wondering what kind of exhaust pipe mods are needed for this setup, if any? Thanks

Just curious why radius arms won't work? Don't like the handling characteristics, or you can't fit them physically, or...??

I think you have modified the radius arms on the FJ80 on your Isuzu, right? I've seen that, and it's cool. Initially that's what I had in mind, but it seems like a lot of work and I don't think I'd get quite the flex as with a 3 or 4 link.

Hi Gary,

I just wanted to see if you were done with your 3 link setup with the FJ80 front axle. I'm doing the same thing and am getting ready to buy my parts and dig in. Do you have a build up with pics?

Thanks! BTW I have a 3 link FJ80 thread going here as well.
