92 Cummins injector pump help
Trying to help a buddy out here. He has a 92 Cummins and was trying to fix a leak at the rear of the injector pump. When he took the back off the pump he "let the cat out of the bag" so to speak all over the floor. He has it back together now but it won't run. I suspect that he has one or more parts out of place, missing parts, or timing issues. Question is - where can he get an exploded diagram of the Bosch pump? Hate to bag it until we know it's toast. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Is it a 92 or a 94? More specifically, is it a rotary or inline pump. Assuming its stock and 92, then its rotary, if its stock and 94 then its inline.

Sorry - screwed that up. It's a 92 as indicated in the title. Thanks for catching that.

The Bosch guys guard that info pretty closely. I'll look around to see if I have any links to info when I get home tonight.
I'll assume that he reconnected the power wire to the fuel cut solenoid (the upper one) and didn't connect it backwards with the KSB solenoid (the lower one). Should have power with key on at the upper solenoid, might have power on the lower one when cold if the thermo switch is working. Sometimes the pin inside the conenctor gets loose and makes a lousey connection. |

I'll check thae connections but I think he has that right. When he first put it back on the truck we cracked the lines to the injectors and got "some" fuel to them. I say "some" cause I didn't think it looked like enough. The engine would not fire at all unless we gave it a small shot of starting fluid (I hate that stuff but we had to try something). It would immediately fire but die after burning the sf. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well, I think this is what I was thinking of: http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...ad.php?t=73761 Unforunately, I let my membership run out, so I can't say if the info you need is there.
Did you get it running yet? |

Nope - not running yet. Found a little bit of info on the internals but not enough to help yet. The search continues!

What do you mean by "the back of the pump"? Nothing really comes off the back of the pump unless you take the lines off. Did you pull the top of the pump off? If so, there is a little spring (governor spring), a pin the spring hooks to, a really small spring, and a top-hat looking thing. If all those parts are not installed right, it will not start. A word of caution, dont use starting fuild, Cummins use a heating grid in the intake. The starting fuild could ignite in the intake and hurt the inter-cooler. Also, when playing around with the governor spring, you could start a run-away condition. You should pull the intake tube of the front of the turbo and have a flat piece of wood handy to cover the inlet if the motor starts to rev out of control. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...tid=3344&stc=1 http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...tid=3346&stc=1 http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...tid=3345&stc=1
