SR 5 Speedo Cluster Question

I have had a few tries at this one. DOH! I did the usual. With the first try, I pluged in the cluster with the wrong oil pressure sending unit. One down. With the second, I put what I thought was the right oil sending unit in. Had low oil pressure, found out there was a different oil sending unit, put it in and wa la...good oil pressure, but the water temp read half way on a COLD motor and never really changed. Gave up, put the stocker back in, ended up throwing that cluster away. That's how it stood for a couple years, then I got a "hair" to try again. Just put another SR 5 Cluster in and guess what?? The water temp reads half way on a COLD motor AGAIN??? Any ideas...oh and yes, I searched!

On a *completely* cold motor? Or luke warm?
The temp sensor seems to be electrically dampened.. It's "normal" for it to jump to the "normal" range 1-2 minutes after starting the truck... Or at least that's how it behaves on my rig.

Bob Garrett..it's an 85 with A/C.
dcg9381...on a completely COLD motor.
My stocker didn't do this, so I wouldn't expect this one to. I'm gonna give up for good this time. Stocker going back in. Thanks

I tried this a long time ago myself. Had pretty much the same result. Temp and fuel is enough for me. I bought a guage to put under the hood for oil pressure. It's still in the box. I put a shift light in as a joke and my jackass roomates put a 3000 RPM pill in it so I know when 3000 rpms hits and I'm blinded, thanks. These engines run pretty well no matter what. If its low on oil press it knocks a little. You can hear it.
