Nic-- YOU WERE AT CALROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??
Man you were within 100mi. from my place damn we could of saved you shipping.

Toy family- I was so bummed that you were not in the finals I showed up for Sunday really hoping to see your rig compete. Well atleast you got out there like you planned (I had my doubts whether or not you would be able to finish the buggy in time atleast at the begining). It looks great , and next time you'll show em' eh!

I told Nick that we were going to ahve to explain all of it. The motor was my responsibility. I started by removing every smog related component and making the appropriate restrictor plates. I'm not sure what everythihng is called, but the best way to start is to remove everythign connected to the smog rails. I capped every vaccum line that I removed. At this point it ran but didn't idle. We got a smog guy to come by and look at the routing(thanks sly4rnnrdrt12), which enabled us to get rid of a lot more stuff and route vaccum to the components that needed it, either manifold or regulated. I'll make a drawing for the line routing and explain the carb mods. We were also able to completley ditch the ECU. The key to running at the angles was routing the bowl vent out of the circuit. Normally in extreme angles, the vent dumps the excess fule down the throat of the carb, which stalls the engine. That is the hose you see on top of the carb. We're going to change it to motorcycle fuel line. We routed this into a small recovery bottle to avoid leaking fuel onto theground. The system worked flawlessly.

That buggy is so cool, I drool everytime I come by and see it I think you guys totally kicked ass considering you never got to test the rig before competing and you built it for a WHOLE LOT less than what your competitors are!

Well I am no longer a virgin to the weber stall on a steep hill (it took one trip) . I was hoping you could do a write for the mod you did? Its pretty frustrating to know you could make the hill but your intake is sucking raw fuel. I've seen other posts but your fix seems to under stand the problem/fix better than most.

OK I am sure I will get flamed on this on, but I am a complete newbie to a carb. Everything I have owned up untill a month ago has been EFI. Please enlighten me on this breather to keep it runnin at extreme angles.... What is it hooked to? What does it do exactly?

OK so I am alittle slow typing.

Wilson, your carb looked like it ran great. I am the guy who drove the Army green tubed Toyota coiled, w/ rear steer dana 44. I ran a brand new Webber 32/36 that worked great except for #2(Crack). I vapor locked the motor on #4. I am searching for an Injected 22RE. Keep up the good work you guys kicked ass!!! RUN DOG

ran the carb because it was free (Poor Copllege boys), we had to spend money on more important things

the tube in the top view is the one that helps prevent the hi angle flooding

Yes, remember it's not goign to run as perfect as fuel injection. there still is the potential for accelerator pump lag and other possibel stalling/hesitation problems, but moving the vent dump out of the throat of the carb is a big help. It will run at extreme angles, but may not alwasy restart if stalled. Nick is going to have to test it again, the front brakes were locked all day, which made it much easier to stall. A little more seat time and we'll have a better idea of just how well it works. On a regular truck, you will have to run the vent line out of the stock air cleaner assembly which requires some more work, but is easily doable.

I've got an efi motor sitting and ready to put in, but not enough time, so I'll make the carb work. Did you guys set the floats way low or leave them stock?

Hey Wilson and Nick, I was wondering if you'd get the same results if you replace the drain hose with a rubber cap that plugs that tube. That way you can run an air cleaner without having to worry about routing the hose out to a catch bottle.

Maybe, but I think that it would prohibit the bowl from venting, which could cause a vaccum in the bowl and it wouldn't run at all. there's no rooom under the hood for a regular air cleaner anyways
