3rd Gen 4Runner, chop top/exo

Heres day 1, copied from the TTORA NB. There will be a hoop in front of the tire that follows the c-pillar and will go through the roof to the exo. inner support for the exo.

heres what I got done today:

the only thing I dont like is the loss of the rear view, but it was the only way to do it.

Cut the old sliders off and made new ones out of 1-1/2" square and round tubing with a kickout. The old ones werent long enough for the exo. and got the wheel hoops done as well

I am wondering if it's maybe trail gear or Marlins kit modified to fit or if he went totally on his own...

Its good to see a straight axle 3rd gen or Taco that's not lifted sky-high. Nice rig.

I still want to move my running gear over to a 3rd gen someday...

it's nice to open a thread and see that the person is doing what the title says....not asking "so has it been done? post up your pics"

looking good

There is no kit under this, a few parts from Sky Man., But I made the hanger/bumper. The axle is a 67" hp44. The rear is stock with spacers soon to be a D60.

And Kyle, sorry for the all talk and no chop, I was getting everything straightened out, but the top will be bolted back on sunday........ Hopefully. Then I can finish the exo/tailgate/soft top.

The white runner in the background is Al from alabama. Cant remember the site he is on.

Nice. I think a 3rd gen may very well be my next project.

Are you building it so the top is removeable or are you going to make a soft top for it? Mine started as a top chop but when I got done, there wasn't much 4runner left. The truck looks badass man, keep up the good work.

hopefully we will have it bolted back on by the time we leave tomorrow night, but I would like to bend some tubes for mine if we get tired of working on the 4runner.

both.... The original top will be bolted back on, and then I have to make a folding frame so the guy can get started on the soft top. The hatch will stay connected to the hard top and Im gonna build a swing out gate to go with the soft top.

Im also gonna build tube doors to go with the exo

today was a productive day. The top was cut off and the body as all capped. everything looks as if it will line up smoothly so the top will now be removable. Hopefully Brad will get the pics loaded shortly.

Pre-cut

Taped off and drilled through to cut level

Also turned the rear hatch harness around to unclip at the tops mounting point.

First cut, no going back

And finally the bitch is off..... hehe

getting the caps fabbed up and welded in place

caps are finished for now.

and setting the top back on with the bottom flange welded on

still left is finishing the caps and painting them, filling the old roof rack holes and painting, getting the flange done on the top, cleaning it up and painting it... Then I guess drill the holes, weld the nuts on and bolt it on. The interior is pretty much already cut to fit.

Then I can finish the exo
