Good luck with it being done buying bikes

sounds like a perfect candidate for a fly & ride. Tons of dirt between Maine & Iowa. It might take a few sets of tires to get home though.

I will likely get some this winter. No real need here as it's flat and straight.

Honestly, it's not horrible. It's not a Honda, but ours has had the ever-lovin' piss beat out of it for three years and it's still running. We used the 2 year warranty quite a few times but also wore out three or four sets of tires in that time. Engine got rebuilt once due to a reduced power issue that the dealer couldn't figure out. Rear end/hub exploded once. We've sank it a few times, launched it a few times, rolled it a few times, driven it thru snow storms, -20 degree weather, across frozen ponds, towed jeeps, trailers, logs, skiiers, sleds and had four people aboard. The factory tires are wuss so we got beefy MX lugged tires that we studded for winter travel. There is limited space in the swing arm so the tire selection is limited, side lugs have to be cut off if you use some brands. The exhaust pipes are the low point and end up acting as sliders too much.
I think the dealer network is a little scattered, the one we deal with here in Maine is a good guy but not a great mechanic. He's also a smaller dealer so very few stocked parts. We'd often steal parts off showroom bikes and he'd order replacements rather than make us wait the couple weeks everything took to come in.
They are cheap (12k ish), they are 2 wheel drive, they can fit a small family.

Those are offroad-only plates!

You need plates and insurance to ride anywhere other than your own property, and none of those can be ridden on the street.

Only good thing is, the plate is only $35 and is good for life.

Now, don't get me wrong Bones, we'd love to have you, but you may want to re-think your reasons for moving after you read the following post I made on my local board (bottom line, gov't is equally stupid and bureaucratic everywhere!)

MOTHERFUCKER!!!!

Stupid fucking illiterate government employees. Stupid fucking rules. Dumbass ignorant fucking idiots everywhere.

So, I try to go to the lisc. bureau and do the right thing. Stupid ignorant bitch can't understand why a 30 year old dirtbike wouldn't have ownership papers. She actually suggests I have to track the entire history of the bike back and name every owner in the last 25-30 years for each bike!!

For the LEM (Italian made) the stupid fucking cow actually suggests I have to call "Italy" to get the bike's ownership or history...as if "Italy" was a person for fuck's sake!!

Can you imagine:

- ring ring, ring ring

- Gutten tag

- Err, Hello, this is Bill from Canada, can I speak to Italy please?

- This is Germany, Italy is not in right now.

- Oh, OK, well could you leave a message. Could you tell Italy that Bill called and I need to know the complete history of an old dirt bike. Thanks.

- Ja Vol, no problem, I will have Italy call you back when she gets back from supper.

- kthksbye

Tracked down the registered owner of the last bike today - he sold it in 1985!!!

With a letter from him I was able to register the last one:

- Re-issue of permit $10
- Transfer of Permit to my name $10
- Sworn Affidavit $10
- Off-road plate $35
- Sales tax on a 27 year old motorcycle $48

Total: $113
