All of Matthew's pix here....
http://www.4x4crawl.smugmug.com.

...and the reason his Dad, Russell was not.....

I want to thank Stan Baker, Butch Baker, Todd Yonkman, Peter Sloop, Gary Coberly-Waggoner and the entire LSLC Family for helping me out of a jam this past week. As most of you know, I suffered a mild heart attack on Monday night before Roundup. This was Matthew's spring break from Baylor University and we had been planning on going to the Roundup together for some time. This was to be Matthew's first trip out in the new and improved Meanie.

After a heart catheter procedure on Tuesday morning, I spent the rest of the day in my hospital bed trying to work out how I could get Matthew to Katemcy. Stan Baker agreed to come to Commerce and help Matthew load up the rigs and take him in my place. I will forever be grateful.

Matthew had a blast and came home with 300+ sweet pictures! Check them out at http://www.4x4crawl.smugmug.com.

I am 47 years old, thought I was in excellent health (ok, a little bit overweight), a non-smoker, a non-drinker and I had a heart attack. Stress levels & cholesterol levels a bit too high I guess. There is no heart disease in my family. Fortunately, my problem can be treated with a couple of heart meds, an asperin, healthier meals, exercise, and some stress-relief time every once in a while. I am positive the latter means MORE wheelin' trips.

Count every day with your family a gift from God! Once again, thank you LSLC! I am proud to be associated with all of you.

Russell

Seems as if every year something happens beyond belief on the rollover tree, Josh had arranged for JK to take the Monster 60 back and de top/cage it, so he rolled it, sumbitch did not die, I was afraid he was knocked out, ran up there and the keys came out so he could not kill it, that danged ole carbed 2F was still running when we sat 'er back on all 4's.....would not have believed it were possible...........yes it was still running in the bottom picture.

Awesome event. I am super impressed with the way it ran looking at it from the outside for once. Chad Smithson, Butch Baker, Nick Stone and the rest of the group did a fantastic job.

The weather was perfect, lots of sunburns on the trail on Thursday!

I ran with the JK Customs crew on Thursday for the shake-down run of Dusty's new front and rear 4-links.

This Cruiser got all new supsension and 1-ton axles front and rear. Jason did a FABULOUS job with it too. Top of the cage was the same a that of a FJ-40 with a 4" spring-under and 35's. Wheelbase was 113" and the rig flat worked.

This little buggy was really sweet too. JK took a beat-to-crap mini truck and 4 linked the rear and tubed out the rear. It was very light and worked great.

The ass was a tad light for down hills and the leafs in the front would unload on extreme off camber, but overall it was awesome to watch.

This sequence was from Rollin-Joes and he made this wouthout a strap on the rear, BUT the front stinger really saved his ass :D

The flop is on High 5 hill and I was between him and the bottom of the hill when he flopped, had he rolled again, I would have had to try to catch him

Jason's rig is just about to have to go in for a 4-link ir something. The big-block and the 1-tons have taken their toll on the frame. It has more flex in it than Denise Austin ;)

That said, Jason's driving is able to overcome the fact that it is the last one standing with :rainbow: 40" cut boggers on the trail :D

Better get to work before Hot Springs Jason!

The Biggs boys are always a riot to wheel with.

Brandon had his highly modified K5 out there for a shake-down run and Rusty was testing out the D300/14 bolt swap.

Both rigs held up to a ton of abuse.

Random Shots......

Charles Kim's rig is a work of art. Probably the heaviest rig I have ever wheeled with, but it works great.

Wanabecruisin's rig worked great but was plagued with steering issues.

My nephew Jake went with me to the event. He is 12 and got some stick time himself.

He would just put the buggy in one gear, crank it and ride that gear.

It was classic.

The Bash Buggy did awesome until it broke :(

I added 3/4 tire of water in the fronts and I cannot believe the difference it made.

I was pulling off some truly amazing climbs that I had tried before and had never made.

The transfer case housing busted on the last day, but other than that, all was well.

Here are my shots of some of the not so modified group, and others that were. It was a great time and glad to finally get out to meet these folks I have been talking to and reading about for some time. Not to mention getting away from web wheeling.

I don't know why I did not break out the camera on the runs we ran together. You had a KICK ASS roll, you beat the piss out of it on Kate's Blacksheep and walked Bronco Alley like it was not there.

Great meeting you too and awesome rig.

I am bettin that last CV you got was not as clearanced as much as the previous ones.

It sure looks like you bound up that CV..

Fawk..

Let me know if the gears are hosed.
I still need a 27 spline adapter..

#32 ·
That is the CV that Randy had in it when I bought the car. I am thinking it is from being full throttle in 2nd gear and not making the climb....(two or three times until I made it) ;)

No ones fault but my own. I just hope the reduction box will live in the new setup.

Couldnt get on the board last night to post... Brad and I made it home safe and sound... Crawler Hauler pulled down a solid 10mpg all the way home... Best was 11, only lost one tire on the trailer in El Paso and it was the one I wasnt too sure of leaving anyway... 18hours to get to Phoenix :barf: then another 12 to home, Im beat...

Great to see my White Trash brothers and sisters again and meet alot of people I know from the board but have never met...

Special thanks to Butch and everyone involved in putting this together   Ill be back next year for sure, it was worth the drive...
