HGC First Buggy Project aka Spitwad

The time has come. The spitwad gets a new life. Joe originally bought the 1998 Tacoma brand new and started building it from day one. It went through a lot of changes in the past few years. Once it started seeing more and more hardcore trails the truck got more character. Joe and I have been building a lot of trucks lately for friends and want not. It was just a matter of time that we would start a buggy project for someone. What better person then one of the the guys that helped give homegrown its name.

The plan is to make a 4 seater all Toyota trail buggy with all the running gear he already had. Joe bought the BTG buggy plans as a basis for us to go off of. well worth the 75 bucks. easy to follow plus this allowed us more time in the shop instead of trying to figure everything out. we plan on making lots of changes to plans and give it the HomeGrown love

Some of the specs
Supercharged 3.4
Toyota auto tranny
Dual t-cases
Diamond front axle housing, fj-80 knuckles, chromo Newfield’s, fj-80 high pinion diff, 4:10 gears, Slee off road high steer arms, psc double ended ram.
Taco rear axle
14” coilovers in the front
16” air shocks in the rear.

Here are some before pictures of the spitwad

It's hard to believe he's had that truck for almost 10 years. I remember wheeling Left-Hand when it had IFS and 33s. Some where I have a picture of it with RC D44, coilovers and 37'' Baja Claws. I'm looking forward to this build.

She's off to a good start! It will be cool the see how the Toyota auto and S/C 3.4 works. I became a believer with the auto in the Raisin (hippocrate!)

You guys better make that seat adjustable cuz I'm drivin too!

she was a clean truck at one time. i dont think the crew had anything to do with that...

the plan is to atleast use the drivers section of the dash. along with putting a/c back in. this way there will be a spot for the a/c blower to go and what not. along with using the factory switches and gauges.

the good ol days when it had that leaky d44. man i was glad to see that paper weight go.

i also think joe will like the auto tranny after watching the raisin wheel, or maybe that has something to do with your lead filled right foot.

later tj

Sick build Tj&Joe

I rember when I had to drive that truck to work every day when Joe broke his foot. It drove really nice.

I'm sure the new creation will look just as good as the taco did in the first pic.
