Help: Conversion from internal to external regulated alternator
Help
Can I convert from my internal regulator with L,S,IG to an external one with F,E,N. Mount the F,E,N alternator and then use some kind of external regulator. I heard that toyota used both in 84 & 85 pickups interchangably for no appearent reason. Mine went south and picked up this one that I would like to use. Salto |

I would just stay with the internal if you can but it is doable. I just swapped out an external for an internal. It's no problem, just look in the manuals, match up the wires and splice them. Oh, and find an external regulator

Whats the point
The internal reg alt puts out about 70 amps and is more reliable. The external reg alt. only puts out 40-45 amps and ins not that reliable. I converted mine to an internal about two years ago. Have had no problems.
