Hey Ian, If I undestand correctly that motor has something like 50 HP, correct? How well did it move the rig when not in 4 low? Loved that build, it's the first thing I have seen on your show that I really thought was outstanding. I spent most of the day yesterday on Ebay and even found that same motor for under a grand about 30 miles from me.

I am not Ian, but 67hp, 97ft. lbs stock, with some easy free mods, 100hp is easy to come by.

Ian, You guys did a awesome job on the green Samurai build but what I'm most impressed with was you explanation of the waist vegetable oil (WVO) system and how it works. I've been running WVO in my F350 for over four years and you were spot on with the requirements for running WVO and the installation of the system. If you ever bring the Samurai out to southern California I'll gladly top of your tank with clean filtered WVO. |

what are you trying to say 35"s plus 4.10 doesn't make a race car. other than that i still have the stock 1.3lt of fury under my hood your gearing is xactly what i have in my sami. it's my dd right now tell i get another truck and this is the secound round for her as a dd, deffinately not the fastest truck on the road and if it's a short trip ill stick to back roads but, every once in a while ill drive her a couple houres either direction to the trails. as long as your not in a hurry and your not embarised about being passed by every one else on the road its all good. nice job btw you guys did a great or horrible thing for zuks. proved they are just as capable to the unbelieving world who as of yet haven't seen it first hand. i think sami parts just went up in value

I have to admit I really liked the build. I see a conversion in the future and spent a good portion of the day reviewing the conversion online. Want to post some links of where your research came from?

The Greasecar kit made the swap honestly almost easier, because the fuel system became a stand alone setup, and I jumped into the switch in the column to wire everything up. |

My Jetta with a 1.6TD will take most 16v's off the line and is quite happy spinning the tires well into 2nd.
The motor is 100% stock with no bolt ons. The one thing it does have is a well tuned fuel pump, and that cost me about 4 hours of research on www.vwdiesel.net Governor removal, aneroid pin placement, advanced timing and starwheel adjustment are all free mods. You can block the BOV (limits boost to 12psi) and install a manual boost controller for next to nothing as well. A 3" downtube, and bigger injectors would make a big increase in power as well but you'd probably want to upgrade the headgasket to a 1.9TD. I use a Garret T3 turbo and can upgrade to a T3/T4 hydrid or a larger KKK model.

Yeah, I watched the show yesterday, and that is definitely one of the coolest project's you've done yet. The show is by far my favorite of that type on TV right now. I like how you stick to the 'Budget Builds" kinda theme. You actually do stuff that us 'po folk can afford!!!! Now if I could just get my hands on that TubeShark setup!!!

I have never seen a 1.6L in a 99 Jetta. They stopped the 1.6L in 92. A 99' diesel would have been a TDI, 90HP.
