Harlan KY Info

I have never been there. There is not much info on here on the area. For the people who have been then post up some info. Good places to stay, tips for the trails, & ect. This way the ones of us wanting to visit the area soon will have somewhere to start planing. Post any useful info or maps. May be good to post links to post on any recent trips as well.

www.KYMC.org this is the website for the local club who maintains the park. Any upcoming events are always publicized (usually by myself) in the trail rides and events section. The largest event of the year for them is the Southern Shine Crawl, Memorial Day Weekend and draws in hundreds for the event and the large raffle http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=652598 . Local hotels, cabins and houses for rent are always booked months in advance. They hold several events each year. If you have not been wheeling here you are missing out big time as there are 7000 acres of mild to wild in the way of trails and old coal mining roads. Access is Free and camping is also Free within the park. Thanks Shawn

Trail Maps can be bought at any Gas Station in Evarts, KY (where the park is actually located)

Need some quick help. Trying to plan are first trip to Harlan for next weekend. We are looking for a campground with RV huckups close to the trails. Need to be able to drive to the trails without having to trailer. Any Ideas? What side of the park would be better to stay on.

South Evarts Campground would be the place for you to stay. It has water, power, and cable hookups. It also has a shower house. It's about 1-2 miles from the Bailey's Creek trail-head. You can drive your buggy on the roads to and from the trail-head. Just respect the traffic laws and you won't have a problem. I don't have an address, but it's on KY-38 in Evarts directly behind the Dairy Hut.

Bailey's Creek is the best side to stay on IMO, it's closer to most of the good stuff.

Here's a crude map of Evarts. South Evarts Campground is on the left side of the map where it says "RV site". The trail-head is in the upper right corner.

Harlan Info

Our Club Has Done Several Weekend Rides In Harlan. I Would Suggest Making It A Three Day Weekend. We Usually Stay At The Trail 45 Trailhead. They Have Cabin Rentals Or Camping Sites For Tent Or Camper. Run A Search Engine For Harlan, Ky. They Have A Great Web Bsite, With Lots Of Info About The Area. Hope This Helps.

i've stayed in evarts at the black mountain cabins loved them but didn't like having to drive through town so much we ride mostly at night when its cooler out and was worried we would make people mad driving through town at 3 or 4 to go back to the cabins, no one said anything but if i lived there i wouldn't like it so if you ride late i'd recommend trail 45 the trails start in the campground if you look on a map you start at middle fork playground from the campsite it is perfect they have showers and a small store that sells ice and drinks tshirts etc i liked it a lot more i think they had rv hookups if i remember right the guy that ran it was cool he even has welders and tools if you break. call him with questions he was very helpful to us
