Hendrix F-toy #26 on an EBronco

My buggy has been know as the fugly bugly around my house for about 4 years now. I have changed my mind on what I wanted to do from day one. So I have decided to make a new topic. That and most of my pix don't work in the other topic. So now I am starting a new topic with most recent pics; I am not posting pics of anything I am no longer using. SO this topic will be a lot cleaner than the last.

My though during most of the planning and purchasing was to be able to use boneyard parts, in case I break anything. Or to buy parts I would be able to use later if I decided to upgrade. So now I am starting a new topic with most recent pics; I am not posting pics of anything I am no longer using.

First it was going to be a ground up restore, I got the bronco for free. then I was going to put a BII on the frame. It didn't take long for me to change my mind once I saw the Hendrix chassis and the price. Thats when I decided to do the Hendrix chassis. The shipping was killing the deal for about a year and a half. Finally got the chassis, and true to my nature. I changed my mind about using the entire frame. So I whacked off the rear portion so the only thing left from the original bronco is about 6' of frame.

The motor hasn't changed much. I wanted to use a Mustang motor I bought from my cousin. It is a powerful little motor, but its speed density. So I decided to upgrade to MAF with a Mustang ECM. Along with this I decided to upgrade the ignition system with an MSD system, with the rev limiter. All of that stuff was purchased used. The power steering pump went in the trash. And I swapped in a Saginaw pump for the full hydro steering. I need to swap the pulleys still; I still have to decided what I want to do about the exhaust. The headers hit the passenger side frame so they wont work.

The rest of the drive train has change a little also. Early on I was going to use a stock C4 with a D20 that I had. then I decided to go with a 203/205 combo. So I decided I had to upgrade the transmission to C6 with a small block bolt pattern. Yeah all of this was bought from a boneyard except for the NWF doubler

Now the real changes were to the suspension and axles. First bought a 5" Bronco suspension lift. Then I sold all that to do a home made 1 link. Ditch that idea for a 4 link with coils. Dropped that idea for coilovers. My axles have changed and I am now on my 4th set and it still hasn't rolled on any of them 1st) EB D44/BB 9" 2nd) full size D44/ full size 9" 3rd) HP D60/ 14 bolt 4th) now rocks. I ditch the 38 boggers for the 44 TSLs, that was an even trade with a guy from Dallas. The axles in the pix were sold last weekend so its all up on jack stand. Ill wait till next week to post pix of the rockwells. I would rather post my own pix instead of someone elses. I have to go pick them up Monday. My uncle Sam check wont be here till the middle of next month so I may just make my own brackets and save the check for some other thing.

Yeah I know my welding looks like shit, but at least I try to make it look nice by grinding off the ugly stuff

I am waiting on some parts to get the Rocks under the buggy. I have cut all the bushing ends off the link and I am replacing them with 1.25 rod ends. All my rod ends came in about 2 weeks ago. But I am waiting for a few more brackets.

While Ive been waiting I bought a HD Fatboy. Ive been playing with it for the past 3 weeks. Waiting on new parts for it also. Mail sux, rather waiting on mail sux

Nick-

Any major problems you've come across adapting this chassis to the bronco frame? I'm looking at this as a possible option for my bronco over this winter season.

No problems at all. Its like the chassis was made for it. The only draw back I see someone might run across is, if you want to mount your engine farther back you wont be able to. I only have about 2" behind the motor and the dash bar.

Not to hijack but I'm doing kind of the same thing. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=645403 I'll be posting up some new pic's Sunday. Might even get done before Nick since I'm not changing axles 3-4 times.

Time for a little update. No pics though I started the center console, dash and gauge area. I got the corvette steering column mocked up and the brake also. All my Rockwell brackets are ready to be welded on. I am 4 linking the front and rear now. The Mogs went south. I couldn't get enough buyer to have them shipped here. So I am sticking with the Rockwells. As I said, all the link parts are here and most is tacked and waiting on the brackets to be welded on. The ram mounts are done, front and rear. I ended up getting a 10" ram for the front and the 8" is going in the rear. All the rim centers are pressed in and ready to be welded, they are just tacked right now.
I had the buggy rolling before I got the Rockwells. So I am excited about getting it rolling again. After that is all pluming and wiring. I ordered the shifter yesterday. So Ill be able to work on the console a little more when it gets in.
One major change is the front. I have to cut and re-fab the front. With the stock cross-member I cant lower the buggy without the top loader hitting the cross-member. Its going to be a lot like the rear. Thats going to help a lot for clearing the front 4 link.
The lower sides (boat sides) are done. After I get the exhaust routed I can weld the lower sides on.
I don't get much time off right now. So I am lucky to work on the buggy once a week.
Mon-Wed. I hope to get the new races and bearing in. The I can put the tire and rims on. So I can set my axles where I want them. If I get finished making my press. Thats another project that set my several week behind on the buggy. But its should be finished Monday.
The only real change you can notice is the inside. Damn I just remembered I need to find a place to mount the rear steer joy stick. I had to go manual. I couldn't afford electric right now.
