Boatsides on my Blazer in Progress
Just though I would share the progress that I have done on the boatsides for my Blazer. Consists of 2x8 3/16th, 2x2 3/16th and 3/16th plates.
2x8 welded in. I know I only have 4wheel studs on the front tire, it just for rolling around purposes ![]() 2x2 crossmembers tacked in. ![]() Plate tacked on. ![]() Plate partially welded in and painted ![]() Still one more grinding, welding, painting, and another side to do. Just though I would share.. Last edited by extremetoy; 09-24-2008 at 10:42 PM. |

what do the bottom of the doors look like? Did you cut right below the bottom hinge?

yes I am going to cap the ends and then use 16 guage to block off the fat holes on the sides to stop mudd from getting in.
Yes I know I only have 4 studs on the front right. I ran out and had to roll it around alittle before I bought more and have not put them in yet but it isn't driving yet anyways. I wanted it stought since I plan on having full exo and this thing is gonna be heavy. |

I think your boatsides are just right! Not too high to make them look like $hit and take up too much of the truck, and not too low so they are pointless... they are just right! Good job! And I say that the 3/16" is also a good balance of strength and weight, especially if you are going to put the exo-cage on it! Keep the pics coming as the build progresses please! I would like to see how it turns out with the cage!
![]() Thanks! Matt

Interested in how he did the lower door hinges also. I'm going to guess he either had to cut them out and/or move them because the new tube looks higher.
Also, is there still room inside the door to roll the window all the way down? |

The hinges on the doors are in the stock location but I had to cut the bottom hinge in half. Originally I wanted to go higher but with the doors so heavy, I just went as high as I could and it turned out perfect. The windows are currently welded shut to keep the weather from the interior while I build it. Unfortunately GM decided to design the doors with the power window motor in the bottom of the door. I plan on getting some doors with manual windows and modify them to work with them cut. Or I will just cut the welds and pull out the windows

Are all of the 2x2 braces the same length? my buddy has a 91 blazer and he is boatsiding it but it doesn't look like we can get the plate to sit flush with the frame if we run the braces straight to the frame cause the frame has a slight bend in it at the front.

Also love the rig. Can you post pics of the rear fenders inside and out. also did you bob the rear or just push the axle back?

thanks man. ill try to convince him to do it that way. it seems alot easier. he wanted to run 2x2 off the frame about 6" to 8" then angle cut them and run the braces from those to the slider.

yea the way he wanted to do it doesn't seem as strong as just running them straight to the frame.

Man after seeing this i think i mite reuse my 2x4x.250slider when i boat side my yota truggy. And just move them up and use 2x2.250 wall for the angle peices to the frame. Sence my exo/cage is set-up to mount to it. Plus 2x2x.250 is just setting on my shop floor.

How far up are the power windows in the doors, or are they mounted on the bottom.
I want to keep my power windows Last edited by 78stepsideUAK10; 09-27-2008 at 08:56 PM. |
