I don't recall seeing a 292 mated to 465 before, but someone will correct me. But I do have a 66 C60 truck that came stock with a 292 and 420. I know you could still get the 250 6cyl in 1/2 tons up til 82 or 83 with a 465 in it.

Sure, there's lots of trucks out there with 292 and 465

I know a guy around town with a 71 or 71 3/4 ton 2wd

Look at all 3/4 ton trucks from the 70s I think the 292 was the base engine

Just about all 292's are the same for power. The 292 that came out of my '66 C10 had a steel crank (wooo!).

The 292/SM465 combo was available from '68 to '86. Aside from pickups, step-vans (bread vans, UPS vans, mail vans, ice-cream trucks, etc) often had 292 power. The last few years (84-86) had a larger 2-1/2" outlet exhaust manifold - they have three bolts instead of two.

Check out http://www.inliners.org and http://www.cliffordperformance.com for more info.
