this is the email he sent me not really a writeup but if you have the FSM it sounds doable
The factory service manual is key to getting this job done correctly. You can find an electronic version of this online for free buy doing a search for "tacoma fsm". It is a little tricky, but not impossible. The automatic computer will only let the vehicle engage the starter if it thinks the transmission is in Neutral or Park. There are two wires that you need to connect to complete this circuit (which you will also wire through your clutch cancel button and clutch pedal). This will allow you to start the engine. The clutch start cancel button and clutch pedal switch were wired into the park wire of the automatic computer. This will essentially (when the clutch pedal is depressed OR the clutch cancel button is pushed) tell the computer that the truck is in park/neutral. This is done to prevent the vehicle from unintentionally starting in gear. The reverse lights are connected directly to your transmission reverse light sensor. This will engage your reverse lights. The only problem with this is that when you put the vehicle in reverse it will see that the truck is in both reverse and park/neutral at the same time causing a check engine light. You can probably get past this using a relay that will turn off the park/neutral signal as soon as you put the truck in reverse. You will also need to hook up a resistor to the transmission temperature sensor. I cant remember the resistor ohm range, however it is specified in the fsm. I had to order mine online because it was difficult to find here locally. Last, you will have to trick the computer into thinking it is seeing the proper signals from the shift solonoids. This is accomplished by using resistors, again specified in the FSM. And from what I understand this guy was in cali so he had to deal with smog |

They thanks man that helps me out a lot!
Okay so i am tackling the wiring right now.. I have maybe 5-10 wires spliced and the rest from the 3.0 body harness and the 3.4 harness are confusing me. My problem is i have a few different wires that are supposedly for the exact same thing.. Like the vehicle speed sensor... What do you guys do about that? |

Its hijack time
anyone ever figure out if the 2000 and up ecus are the same pin set up between auto and manual ecus? I just picked up a 2001 3.4 auto 2wd engine harness and comp and need to figure out how to get this thing to live in my 92

Geebus, 904...thanks for making me feel even better about the tbi 350 I just dropped in my 90 Runner! Seriously, I just got all scared and sweaty looking at all those plugs and imagining all the wires connected to them. EEEEEEK!
Wiring scares me. Hopefully Howell EFI will help me through the nights...

Yea sorry guys i don't get on here that often.
Basically i did everything that the "normal" 3.4L swap would require. I built my own exhaust, put all the smog crap in, etc... For the wiring, i had a bunch of wires that were not connected to anything since they were for the auto transmission, which i do not have. Now What i did do is i jumped the park/neutral saftey swtich wires and i haven't had a problem yet in 4-5 thousand miles ive put on the swap so far. IIRC it was wires 13/14 in connector area D on the ecu. i could be wrong and don't feel like looking up what i had to do. But if you have to go through the wiring schematics, it shouldn't be that difficult to figure out. As far as the person asking if ecu's are compatible, you are going to have to do some research, i looked it up and apparently for mine all i should have to do is find a manual ecu eventually and it should plug right in without problems. I used a combination of the fsm's off of here: http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/ And i paid for the daily fee for using TIS. https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfo....toyota.com%2F It really is a great swap, and if you have a problem with the auto ecu you can pm me and i can try to help you out. -Mike |

As for the pins, you will have to look it up. Print out the EWD's and just start comparing. If you just picked up a 01 harness, and ecu i don't see the problem. Since it is a 2wd ecu/harness you won't have a light on your dash that shows when you are in 4wd (not a big deal, i still don't have mine hooked up) And since it is from an auto if you jump those wire's for the park/neutral safety switch it should be good to go. |
