Can-Am Maverick X3

I was fortunate enough to attend Club BRP where Can-Am unveiled their highly anticipated Maverick X3. While the event was geared towards dealers, a handful of media were invited to get a hands on look at this game changing new UTV.

The Maverick X3 pushes the envelope to new heights with the highest horsepower of any UTV thanks to a new turbocharged and intercooled 3 cylinder engine. I am sure the 154 horsepower number will be toppled soon enough, but that isn't what impressed me most about the Can-Am Maverick X3.

And for taming rough terrain, the Maverick X3 was stretched to a 102-inch wheelbase. That slots it nicely in between a 2-seat and 4-seat RZR. If you pay attention to desert racing, many teams have opted to run the four-seater RZRs over the last few years. This extra length really keeps the car settled in rough terrain, but does ad some weight to the platform. The X3 chassis might just be a great alternative. Many duners also prefer the 4-seat RZR over a 2-seat for the same reason.

Their desert and dune version dubbed the Maverick X3 X rs is clearly geared towards the Southwest. At 72-inches wide it is 10-inches wider than the RZR XP Turbo. The extra width allowed Can-Am to get 24-inches of rear travel from an all-new 4-link rear trailing arm suspension. Up front the Maverick X3 has 20-inches of travel with FOX shocks all-around (2.5-inch up front and 3.0-inch Internal Bypass in the rear).

I'm feeling a little vulnerable.... I've been wanting Can Am to build a machine like this since I bought my 800 Outlander, just not real crazy about the cost.

All the high performance UTVs are over $20k.

i was surprised its the same price as the turbo rzr, with how over priced they all are i was expecting this thing to cost 30k instead of 26k, not that it really matters much

A lot of resemblance to a RZR.....nice machine pushing Polaris harder than they have previously.

It's bigger than my CJ2A....it's 64" wide, 77" wheelbase and 126" overall length....

is absolutely right, lol. I had never even considered a machine that pricey prior to this one. I bought a Wildcat Sport Limited last year and love it, but it's gonna get passed down to my boys when the X3 gets purchased.

Just drove it for two solid days in Baja, and I didn't look. I'd say it tops out close to 9000, but that is just a guess. Tons of mid-range torque.

More power and the same chassis for Polaris. I am a Polaris guy and I can tell you that adding a few HP to the old chassis is not the answer to the Maverick X3.

That's fine. I can tell you after driving Polarises forever (obviously not the newest one that is not released) and this new Maverick X3, the Maverick X3 is a total game changer as far as chassis strength, suspension design, turbo power (no lag) and comfort.

I'm a Polaris homer and I don't even want to ride mine now after that weekend.

that engine platform is capable of 300hp(their 2017 seadoo has 300hp with a super charger) from the factory i can only imagine what the after market is capable of pulling out of that engine in this x3 bigger heads bigger turbo bigger fuel system and that thing would be a freak show

I just think it's weird they stretched the wheelbase and kept small tires. I guess they are focused on sand and not rocks, lol.
