If you were buying a 2009 SxS.....

....and you wanted to add a bench seat in the rear for your 2 kids.

Will be used for sport riding, no work, no hunting.

I have a 700 Rhino and my buddy wants to get one and set it up like mine to take his family trail riding.

I am a die-hard Rhino guy, but the EFI Terrx is looking damn good.

What are your thoughts?

2009 Teryx for sure. The 700 Rhino is nice, but the extra power in the Teryx v-twin is worth it.

It's a bummer you can't add a bench to the RZR, they are way more fun to drive.

Agreed. Have the quality issues gotten better with the RZR?

Not that I know of but to preface that a bit, ours has never broken and I have beat on it pretty hard. If I were to take one rig out though that I need to feel assured would get me home it would be the Rhino.

I love my 09 Teryx. The efi is awesome. It starts right up even when very cold. Power is great. I have had it since early November and have had zero issues with it.

Really, the only quality issue they ever had was the air intake setup. For 09, they threw a larger filter in, and added a lip to the throttle body to keep the rubber boot from coming off so easily. But even with the new improvements, the factory setup is pretty sad. It sucks to spend 10k+ on a machine and have to worry about blowing your motor because of dust. Best bet is to add a Dragon fire racing air box (because the factory air box seals like shit) and go with a snorkel kit. I have over 1000 EXTREMELY hard miles on my 08 RZR, and it has yet to give me a problem other than wheel bearings. I have yet to do the dragon fire air box, but I did add a snorkel kit and better latches to the air box...so I'm not too worried about the dust issues. The 09's also got a little better roll cage, and some frame gussets, which is never a bad thing.

As for the original question...the Teryx is a bad machine, look up some of the videos on youtube of the guys who have done the 840cc kit....those things are monsters with some motor work. Can-Am is supposed to release their new side x side later this year, or next year...and rumors (which may be total BS) have put it close to 100hp from the factory. We shall see. But you really cant go wrong with a Rhino, they are no racers from the facotry, but they are pretty damn reliable and the aftermarket is huge. The new ranger XP is also pretty nice, but they are very large machines...if you do any type of trail riding, something a little smaller may be a better option. I'm waiting to see if Polaris puts their new 850cc power plant into the ranger/rzr line...they make 70hp from the facotry, which would be a nice boost over the current 700's and 800's.

Yamaha is very quite about it. They are now almost 2 months past their scheduled unveiling.

Got an 08 rzr stock besides fastec hubs, gorilla axles, 09 intake upgrade, and I built a cage for it. I wouldnt trade it for anything out right now. All the others are to large in my opinion with not enought power. Cant say much about the prowler havent had a chance to drive one yet.

If it were just me riding and an occasional rider, it would be a RZR all the way. They cant take a bench seat for kids.

This is about Rhino or Teryx...Artic Cats are scary fast but too tall and gay so no thanks.

The guy wants to set this up out of the box with a family cage, rear bench and bolt-on mods for performance.

Rhino or Teryx?

LOL That is as bad as my buds RZR. It had 42 hours on it. It is on its 3rd belt and has broken 2 axles and he drives like an old lady.

Teryx...the extra power of the V-Twin. The EFI mods are some $$$ so why dump $2k into a single cylinder?? Just be warned that there are not alot of options out there for the '09 Teryx as far a performance. Many places still working on fuel mapping, exhaust, intakes, ect...

Get the prowler if you want to run 75 down the highway. YouTube - TMW OFF-ROAD Artic Cat Prowler XTZ 1000 H2 Unveiled

Get the S if you have to have the RZR.

You might as well buy a samurai, it is about the same size but will be better quality.

There was a thread on Race Dezert about Rhino's, SxS's ETC.

It was mentioned that Yamaha canceled the 4 seater Rhino.
Not sure if theres any truth to it, but I'll see if I can find the thread and link it.

I can say the Terrex hauls ass but the suspension is spongy as we rolled over pretty easy. It handles rough terrain well though in a straight line.
Personally, I'd go with a new Polaris and if you have 1 more rug rat, they'd fit too.
