looking for a used UTV - help

I'm looking for a used UTV mostly for utility work on a small farm. pulling trailers around, moving hay bales, dragging fallen trees, etc.

I can't afford new, but don't want some clapped out piece of shit either.

I've been cruising craigslist but all I'm finding locally is almost new rigs where someone "spent $30k, but need to sell it today for $12k." Their loss is my gain!

can these things be had for the price of a newer 4wheeler? or am I better off getting a good 4x4 4wheeler?

I've seen a couple of CL ads saying such crap. I'm assuming they paid retail and bought a bunch of addons.

there are a lot of scams in the UTV market on craigslist. I went on for months looking and looking and looking and it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack for a good deal b/c of all the scammers.

Man, I see these bunch of A-holes that keep advertising on CL. They pay no attention to KBB value or anything the market says, they want what they paid for even after x years of fun!!!!

that said, I'm looking for more Utility than Sport, but want some Sport.

Obviously, I'm not looking for an RZRs - but which models should be considerd? all of them? Should I focus on the Bobcat/John Deere type mfgs, or do they all do it all?

We picked up a new 08 Yamaha Rhino 700 for $8500 off of ebay from a dealer a few months back. I also noticed it was not unusual to see the slackjawed asking higher prices for their used junk than the dealers were for new.

Mo, this guy is in the Springs. Its where we bought the golfcart from. How about the Rover that he is showing? You could also give him a call and see if he has anything else. He doesn't just sell golfcarts

Not sure where you are located but check out Highlifter.com. They are mostly guys who race mud but tons of them have utvs that they just trailride on. I would stay away from the Mule/Gator type vehicles. Too slow for very much fun. I have a Mule 3010, its an older model but as far as i know even the new ones have lawnmower type engines. The Polaris Ranger has either the 500cc, 700cc or the new ones have the 800cc engines. The 800cc has tons of torque but the belt system on polaris's do not like even a drop of water and they belts are uber expensive. The Yamaha Rhino has good power and a great clutch setup. Still uses a belt naturally but its better than the ranger. The Honda big red is the only one I havent had seat time on due to the fact of how hideous it is. When it comes to UTV's and ATV's I know my stuff so dont take a second thought to ask me.

Oh yeah almost forgot the link.http://forum.highlifter.com/Want-to-Sell-f16.aspx

You can search on there and find the answer to most any question you have. Im "Rinny650" over there so I can ask any questions you need to know

How hard do you plan to work one? I wouldn't count the rzr out unless you really are going to be hard on one. They do have a small bed though. I assume most people rather just throw a bale of hay on the bed instead of having to hook up a trailer. Also the hitch on them is kinda flimsy. The rzr may not be the best choice. But I think you should take a look at their hitch and it would probably be pretty easy for you to tell if it can hold up for what you need. I have pulled around some good size trees with mine. I think everybody will agree the rzr is not the first choice for a work horse. But imho they are so much more fun to ride than the others it makes up for it. Which may not even be what your looking for, but you should drive one around some if you haven't already. You probably wouldn't go wrong with any of the others.

My girls love driving it too

as for use:

hauling feed, hay and straw would be the main use, as well as firewood/fallen timber.

I'm thinking I might need to convince my BIL to buy a new Ranger and sell me his older one.

07 rhino 660

Im looking to sell my 07 rhino it is a 660 special edition blue with silver seats I have invested almost 20,000 into it. It has a 686 big bore kit, hot rods cam,hot rods crank, black rhino performance fuel pump, black rhino cdi,two brothers true dual exhaust with header, billet part swap in the transmission to handle the torque, epi clutch kit, snorkled, brand new 28x12x12 outlaws on the rear and 28x9.50x12 in the front bike runs 46 mph with the current clutch kit setting. The mechanic told me that If i wanted to tune it for top end it would run between 60 -68 mph. The motor has 47 hours on it since the build it runs like a top. The bike has plenty of power as i was using it to hunt/ride.
i hate to get rid of it is but im getting married in 6 weeks and it must go asap. Im letting the bike go as a steal for 8500. i have some pics let me know i ill email them right away. Thanks IM in New iberia La And can be reached at 337 523-4819

My boss has one of those Kubota's

I drove it once. Boring and slow as shit. You could tell it had a bit of grunt to it though.

He uses it to haul hay to the horses and mow is fields....and drive around and drink beer.

It's a worker that's for sure but not dual purpose like a rhino would be. Rhino would be fun to just trail ride in addition to work.

I got a good deal on my 99 Ranger 6x6 , I still need a front drive shaft for it. It is fun and my 13 year old daughter loves driving me around in it.
