small u joints....

Top U joint blew, bent my steering column, polaris DENIED to warranty "damage not done from defect".Screw polaris and screw my dealer harder(but that's a longer story).
Is there a place to get just the u joints for the steering column without having to buy the entire assembly?
If I had to guess, the u-joint is about 2-3 inches or less across(haven't pulled and measured yet.
It's the joints for number 19 on the schematics.
Would like to be able to replace the joints, press the bar straight again and sheath it for strength...... what say you guys?

I'm sure you can. Often the u-joints in steering are held in by a little peen on the ear, grind the peen off with a dremel and it will press apart like a driveline one.

I wouldn't bother sleeving, its the broken u-joint that is the problem it sounds like. You could buy some bigger ears to weld on and go with a bigger u-joint.

Replace it with a D60 long side

Sucks that your dealer and the manu. told you to pound sand...

Kartek has steering shafts and components, you might check their catalog and see if they have anything that works.

Farm supply store have small u-joints that can be had cheap. Might want look at them and see what it takes to swap them. I'd not be concerned about how perfect you weld the yokes on the shafts as they don't spin fast at all.

Cool, ill check out those places. Lesson learned on warranties though. That 900$ coulda gone a long way elsewhere.

they tried that same shit with me, I had two broken front axle shafts

they said it was from abuse, I told them the first one wasnt but then I only had 3 wheel drive and still had to get home so the 2nd one might of been

they bitched and whined for 2-3 weeks and then finally covered it after multipule calls to me with multipule excuses.

I agree with ya polaris warrenty

what is crappy is I broke another front shaft and have to take it back in, we'll see how it goes this time around...

current Volvo semis and others use spicer part numbered universal joints. Call ur local spicer dealer, or Tom Woods??... and give them cap and cross dimensions. bet they make them. esp since they make the transmission and diffs in your RZR

Have you tried jumping on the RZR forums and checking if someone has one laying there in their garage?

I did it with long travel suspension, and scored a fairly good deal

Dosn't cost anything to ask!!

Just some advice. If you break a front shaft on either Polaris Sportsmans/XP or the RZR, after you secure the shaft, turn OFF the AWD so you are only in 2WD.

If you leave the switch on...anytime (and it could be for no really good reason at all) the rear wheels spins for 1/5 of 1 revolution (20%) the front locker will engage...putting my MAJOR strain on the other axle and possibly messing up your earlier broken axle that you may have tied up with zip strips or otherwise.
