Perhaps I am not reading this right. It seems it is reporting this is a better manner than the last article. To me, it would be great if people knew they were there and so were able to show our side in a positive manner. Either way, good to know so we can keep an eye on the situation.

That rag tends to side with the "close it" crowd but yes this a lot less biased then the last couple of articles they posted. Maybe we are getting through to them and they are not all granola eaters.

I was up at crawfords last week, he said he has been trying to get the local officials attention on the matter; he put together the impact we have on the local economy, said it was in the millions. He presented that to them and they started listening to him. These people are gonna be sick if we get run out and the towns around dry up!

Talked to Jay Bird tonight (Pres of Southern).

There is supposed to be a meeting soon between Trouts and their Lawyers, Southern and our Lawyers (I believe Carla Boucher from United is our representing Lawyer), possibly someone from Murphy's local government and the FS to try to make some headway on this and hopefully stave a ful blown lawsuit. There is only suppose to be 5 people max from each of the groups. This will be the point where the lawsuit really starts to kick in or they back off by us making some comitments (the bridge at Fains being a big one)

The decision to make some seasonal closings above and beyond what they did this year and possibly permanent closure of a couple trails due to siltation not being controllable due to the proximity of the watershed. If their is closure the trail will either be rerouted or replaced somewhere it wont' effect water quality. Water quality is the big bitch they have.

The bridge over fains ford is pretty well a given after the first of the year so if you want to run it one last time you have 2 months left is what it sounds like and that trail will be closed till march or the bridged is finish.

Probably the only thing that will be open is trail 1 and possibly the 4-6 loop from Jan1-March1. The park will more then likely be closed when wet and 1-2 day after to dry out for control erosion and siltation (a practice that is now common at Beasley knob).

That seems like a sly way of closing it for good, since it rains about every 3 days anyway.

Well, the meeting is going to happen, and yes, Carla is our lawyer.

But I don't think SFWDA is ready to give up on closing any trails. And I also don't think that we are at the point where we trust that the USFS will open more trails if they close some existing ones. I think Jay has an idea in his head about what "could" happen, but I am not comfortable with saying that is what will happen or even that's what we'll agree to. Last I talked to folks, the position we have is that we will not capitulate to TU's demands. Period.

One other thing to note, we really don't care if TU sues the USFS. In fact, I'd rather see the suit go forward because it means that the USFS is not bending over for TU. We have nothing to gain here folks, we need to not give up any ground.
