Vendor Sales Scam Warning

Watch out for winch purchase scams. Below is an example. They use different names, emails and such but they always ask for winches and they always want to pay with a stolen credit card.

Dear Sir,

My name Andi Budiyanto from Indonesia, I'm interested to buy from your store.
My order is:
- warn 8274 , quantity: 5 units.

Please confirm me the total prices and shipping cost to Singapore
by FedEx.
Do you accept Visa/Mastercard?

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best Regards,

Andi Budiyanto

When you get a request like this for several winches you may think hey this looks like a good sale. Watch out cause it's a stolen credit card. Once they get the winches from you they sell them on ebay. The real owner of the stolen card calls when they see the huge bill and then visa deducts that amount from your business account.

One simple step will save you. When you get the credit card number call visa and verify the customers address. You will find the address they are shipping to is outside the US but the card holder actually lives in the US. Have Visa call the card holder to verify the transaction. At this point Visa will cancel the old stolen card and issue their customer a new card. One stolen card down, one million+ more stolen cards to go.

These guys are hitting every off-road shop they can find that has a web page and email link. They never call, it's allways email.

Actually,
I have talked to a shop owner that said that he had a guy do this on the phone. The guy actually tried to use more than one card during the same phone conversation.

We won't honor any sales to Indonesia (sp?) at the store I work at. We've already been bit once buy someone there...in talking to the credit card people they say it is a very common and not to honor cards from that country as there are a bunch of "crooks" there...

I've had them email me requesting me to sell them winches. I sent them a reply stating that I wouldn't do it. They went to my website and tried to purchase them through the site, I had notices of denied attempts of them for 5 winches 4 times (with 4 different credit card #'s).

Here's the email they sent me:

"Hello Sir,

very good in the market.
I meant to buying for some your product.
I need for :
# Warn winch M8274-50
qty : 5 pcs

Can you shiped the product to Indonesia?
I'll use creditcard to purchase that product after we
agree with cost for pcs.
I'll waiting for your answers.
Thank you

best regards,"

Was sent my ghonjor dee [ghonjor@yahoo.com]

Cheers,
JD

This scam has been going on for 2 years now. I can't believe they are still trying. The shop I work at will not accept any orders at all from out of the country without payment up front and a money order that has already cleared.

Sellers on ebay are often contacted for the items they are selling and more by individuals from Indonasia...beware unless they send cash! I don't think I'd even accept a money order! Hard to turn down $2000 and up orders thou--buy you must or you will learn the hard way...

besides verifying the address, make sure you send it to that address. If some other addres is listed have them call the CC company and add it on as an alternative shipping address so you could re-verify it.
