The "Toaster" build

I usually stay with toyota's but when a friend asked me to do a build for him I couldn't pass it up. Plan is 22re/w56/toy case swap with built toy axles. Using TG yota leafs with some of the leafs removed. Full exo and tube front clip and some 38.5s. Needs to be done by sept 14 so there will be nightly progress posts.

How it looked when I started tonight at 5:30.

7:30 when I quit.

Engine trans Tcase driveshafts and axles all for sale.

Those front shackles are awsome. What wheelbase are you looking at?

Stock was at 80" I am hoping to get it out to atleast 100", would be a lot easier if was getting links but that will be part of round 2 for now he just wants to get back to wheeling.

The all toy drivetrain will be nice compared to the weak zuk drivetrain...The power between the RE and 1.3 is night and day

Although you could keep a 1.3 at 7k rpm for a long time and if you touch 5k with a 22r more than 4 times in a day, they throw rods. I really have a bad experience with 20r and 22r's. Went though 5 of them in 3 months.

And that's what I expected when I got my 83 LWB. I've heard nothing but good about them untill I went through 5, then a few other people I know said "oh yeah, I went through a few, too."

My dad has an 86 LWB with a 22r and It's actually held up a lot better than the any of mine. No fair...

I snapped my belt on my 1.3 and my tach hit 8.5k two weeks ago.

My 22re has 330,xxx miles on it and loves tapping the redline. Lets not turn this into a 22re vs 1.3 debate, it won't end well.
Tonights progress, motor/trans out everything off the firewall and the frames cut. Will most likely swap the yota booster and master also.

New axle cl will be about even with the front edge of the hood.

So after pondering on it for a while i figured out a way to get the offset right in the frame for the shackles to end up with the 29.5" center spacing needed for the toy housing, this is what I got. This puts the axle 10" forward from stock and should keep the tire out of the firewall.

Tubes are flush on the inside of the frame.

Protruding on the outside, will get a gusset.

Notice the stacked spacers on the inside.

Need to pick up some steel tomorrow and start rebuilding the front frame.

We will find out, I don't see why it won't work. I flexed the shackles loose and didn't see a problem, will have to clearance the frame for when it goes full stuff.

Stopped and picked up a stick of 2"x4"x.125" box tube and rebuilt the front frame section. Threw the mockup housing in and started the front spring mounts, Murdered an old Tg shackle for the inner mount. Frame will get fish plates and gussets just want to keep this moving along as the new drivetrain should be here saterday.

Firewall clearance looks good.

Close to a 90 degree approach angle.

Damn this section is slow.

You can't keep a thread in the top of the yota section, I guess I figured all the sections were like that, you guys that have done something like this feel free to give pionters.

Finished the shackle mounts off.

Over head shot.

Finished the spring hangers.

Cut a 3" chunk of 4x4 .250 wall box tube in half and braced the inside corners of the new frame.

With no weight on the front, its still looking like its gonna be too tall. Will most likely pull 2 leafs out of each pack to drop it down some.

Looks like about 75% of the tire will be outside the body.
