4 Link Springs for Samurai

Been searching for the best spring to use for a 4 link. Been leaning toward Cherokee front springs on all 4 corners. Have YJ spring in the garage but seem a lil big an wanted a slimmer taller sping. Any input?

YJ's never had coils. Search a bit, there are plenty of coils that will work. All different heights and spring weights. Look into qa1 coils.

samurais are too light for a jeep spring IMO. my buddy has a really nice sami on yota axles and he uses coils for 2.0 coilovers. i forget what spring rate and length, but those are 2 factors that will vary from rig to rig with wheeling style and lift, blah blah blah.

they are nice because they're small and look good, and they flat out work. and even brand new, they're cheap.

What? Sammi to light for jeep springs? Jeep coils and leaf spring swaps are almost on all build threads.

Jeep TJ coils are fine look at DBOZ build thread flexes pretty well too

I used Nissan 240 SX coils in the rear of my sammy... They have about a 3/8" diameter wire with a 2 3/4" inside diameter and are 14" long over all..

At this point, we'll need pictures. Yj's are a popular leaf spring swap.

Im running jeep TJ rear coils in the rear 3 link on my rig, 120lb rate I was told, not sure though. Seem very soft and flexy, but my rig is still stuck in the shop.

If your useing yj springs, those are leafs and there are plenty of threads on useing those.

I have used several sets of heep TJ and Cherokee Front coils on the front and back of samurais over the years. My buggy currently has a set of the front cherokee coil springs on the rear end. They are about a 175-180 in/lb rate and are long and very flexy. Rear heep springs are great to use, but are insanely wide (large diameter) and hard to fit under a zuk, but have seen it done.

Heep front coils work very well under a zuk. The spring rates can be anywhere from 150-200 in/lbs depending on what they came from. Down side is the 5" diameter x almost 17" long (roughly 14" with weight on them). To fit them on the front of a zuk, you must cut into the frame and recess your spring buckets and make them part of the frame. Its a tight fit, but it can work. Otherwise you will end up with a huge gay zuk.

As for other coils, QA1's are a great option and you can get them from a varity of places. In the pirate classified section there is a used coil over spring thread. search for it and look for who has some cheap. Otherwise goto summit racing and order them fairly cheap.

the 14 inch long x 175 in/lb are the most popular for a zuk. I have used the 14-200 in/lb ones and on the DD build I am planning, I am looking at the 10-175 ones. If someone is telling you that is too light a rate, go look at the spring rate thread in the gen4x4 section. It explains in great detail how to tune a coilover useing lighter weight springs. We are only useing the springs and seperate shocks to dampen, but the same principles apply from most of it.

Lots of good info in the previous post from CatZuk. If you are being a tightwad then go with TJ/XJ, 240 SX, Aerostar, whatever junkyard coils which can definitely work good when set up correctly. I have been using the Hypercoil and QA1 2 1/2" inside diameter coils for coil-overs on the X-90 I built which is probably about the weight of a Zuk by now with all the cutting I have done to it. In the front I started with the 12-150 coils since I had them lying around and moved up to a set of 14-150 which were a bit taller and now swapped in a set of 12-200 which seem like they would be perfect if this was a daily driver, but since it is not they are too stiff ...especially for the speed wheeling we like to do. Now the plan is to go with a 12-175 as that seems perfect all around coil rate that won't beat me up while cruising through the rocks at faster than a crawl. My rear is a set of stock 4-door Sidekick/Tracker coils with the buckets moved down to give it more lift. The suspension works well and it flexes like a champ and goes through most anything:
