Interesting question, why would you ask?

I have my spare axle shafts on the bench in my shop. I will be out there later today, and can measure. Do you want from drum surface to the end of the splines?

I want to narrow a rear using both short axles, getting both measurements will tell me how much it will narrow. I need to narrow a rear (homemade frame , more like a truck)to fit on narrow gauge train tracks for a local historic railroad to haul replacement railroad ties.

So you are going to narrow an axle, but are too lazy to remove a shaft to measure. Got it

Short shaft, 21-inches, +or- 1/8".

Long axle, 29-1/2-inches, +or- 1/8".

Both measurements are from axle ends to the face of the four bolt flange.

The only axle I got is in my daily driver--I'm going out to buy an axle for this fun

No pics yet, still in the planning stage
