moabs poison spider mesa in a sammy
Was in Moab this weekend in my sammy....decided to see just how far I could get up poison spider mesa with my stock suspension and my ultra tall p205/70/r15 tires *heh* anyway, needless to say, my sammy pulled off the entire trail with no bypasses, with stock suspension, 205/70/r15 tires and stock gears....you should have seen the looks on the faces of all the confused j**p people at the top of the trail with their 35's and teraflex suspensions and gears....I guess most people havent seen a sammy tackle what is now considered(as of this year)a 4+ rated trail in moab pretty much bone stock(didnt take any damage either luckily since i was doing a solo run)...anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has tried any of the harder trails in moab with a pretty much stock sammy and made it through them....
and lastly, heres to j**p people who NEED 35's and large coil suspensions to get up the trail anyone going to moab this weekend who is interested in wheelin? |

my little bro did PSM-GS-GBR in his stock samurai... he also did hells' revenge and made it up the come-down for dump bump.
he made it through the golden crack without rock stacking or a strap, just some excellent spotting by yours truly. Stock zuks rock. sorry for the over exposure...it was about 10pm when we crossed the crack, we started it at about 6pm and got back at about 11.30 we were absolutely hauling ass!!

We ran a rental Jeep thru that trail and the Golden Crack trail last year, only had to tug it once.

I ran my stock suspension Sami on Metal Masher last fall. Would have taken it on Behind the Rocks the day before but had timing belt issues

sorry, but that trail should be a 2 not a 4. a stock rig can do it quit easy with a decent driver.

Ever think the guys running it with 35's/lockers run other trials where that comes in handy? Glad you had fun though.

I meant around SLC and Moab... I don't know any of you to judge you and your rigs... I just see way too many tricked out rigs with not as much as a rock chip in them, and you just assume they're trying to compensate for something. Like they say, chicks dig body damage.

Hey,
Thats not fair, my tow rig has rock chips & Chrome Bumpers. The wheeler is nearly perfect body right now, but thats because the motor, tranny & t-cases are sitting on engine stands... Corey BTY, Where in the valley are you?

not all that far from the base, but being Military, I don't have THAT much choice.
Just curious, is your Sami Suspension stock? I'm looking for one with (i think) its the missing link suspension. I've got a friend in Ohio that I want to send a set of sliders to, but I don't have a Sami to check out the suspension components location to figure out where to mount them to.... Corey

Ya, I've been on PSM with my old blazer ( www.geocities.com/corey_perez ) . That was interesting. After getting to the top of the water fall, I limped what was left of it back to the trailer, loaded it, fixed it, sold it, and bought the tools to open up my lil shop. Now I'm building a Toyota, and its been a long process, but I've got nearly all the parts now, just got to get it together. I hope this weekend will be it! My neighbor who competes in UROC wanted to go down to Moab for the ARCA comp, but I've got a truck to bolt together. 4.3/TH350/stacked boxes... Lots of welding, plasma cutting and bending this weekend!
Corey
