I've got a 86 Sammie with a Swift throttle body injection system. I did the unthinkable and let it sit for about 2-3 months without starting. I can get it to fire up easy enough, but when I put it under any load, and get the RPM's to around 2500-3000, she starts cutting out pretty bad.
I figured it was probably the fuel at first, possibly condensation, but I'm starting to lean towards the electrical end of things. I noticed that the vaccum advance valve line was not attached to the manifold. Are these normally connected to the manifold, or the air cleaner? I assumed with this being disconnected, that it could be some of the problem, but I've yet to find any area on the manifold that it could connect to. I bought the rig over a year ago from a guy who did most of the mods on it, including the injection system. By the way, I have new plugs, wires, and the distributor and rotor are in excellent shape. Any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated.

If your vacuum advance isn't hooked up, it won't like RPMs above about 2500. It should go from the advance unit to the left side of the intake manifold. That should fix the problem.
If not...fuel filter? |

Sounds like fuel starvation.
Pump Filter Air leak Bad/pinched fuel line Don't know much about the throttle body.

Thanks guys, I'm going to tow into my shop tomorrow and start going through it top to bottom. I've been searching all over the manifold for a place to plug the vacuum advance hose into to no avail.
It's got an in-line fuel filter that I'm going to change out also, but I figured that this wasn't the problem considering it was running great before I let it sit. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what the hell it matter with it. If I'm successful, you guys will be the first to know.

well, I've went all over it, and can't seem to find the source for the vacuum advance hose. I disconnected the fuel filter and shot air though it. It's flowing fine. I ran it up the street and discovered that it does seem to be running a little better, but the strange thing is that in 1st gear, you can rev the R's up to over 4000, but as soon as I put into 2nd, she starts gagging at anything over 2000. This leads me to believe that it probably is a problem with the fuel pump, hence you use more fuel at the same R's in a higher gear under load correct?? If it was the vacuum advance, wouldn't the hesitation become apparent in neutral or first, rather than just when I put into a higher gear? Vaccum should be determined by strictly the R's, right?
Is there any good ways of determining whether or not the fuel pump is pushing fuel at an adequate amount of pressure? I really don't want to go buy another one if I'm not for positive that the one that I have is shot. Ohh, by the way, here's a little safety tip I learned today the hardway. Don't leave your watch on when you're working on your rig. While disconnecting my fuel filter, I inadvertently touched the positive battery post to my watch. She arced like a bastard and melted the links of my watch band together. Managed to leave a nice ring around my wrist with blisters and missing flesh. Other than 2nd degree burns, and a nonrunning zuke, I've had a great day

I put fresh gas and STP fuel injector cleaner in there too.

I'm thinking that the injector sounds the most plausible at this point, but where would I get some good info on cleaning them out, other than adding additives in the gas that don't seem to be helping any?
I siphened the tank and replaced it with super and added STP's best fuel injector cleaner. Let it idle for about 45 minutes. Ran it around the block several times, but it still sputters and gasps when I try to go past first gear. I also was skimming the net and found some info that said that the Swift TBI does not have a vaccum advance unit, so maybe this is why I've been unable to locate the connection anywhere. Anyone know how to clean those damn ejectors???
