With NO CV (2 joint shaft) and no pinion angle its possible to not get a lot of vibes, assuming you in range on operationg angles.

wth a CV you only gonna get so good do to the off set and the pinion rolled up. you can cancel the up/down angle with the CV, but the side/side will always be there...

I have the later and its great on the trails and is drivable for my weekend romps, and i can easily get to/from the trail heads with out ratteling my cage.... (you catch that pun)

Hhmmm just trying to figure out the key to unlock the door on this chit. I'm running a front pre 86 Yota driveshaft with an adapter I had made up. I think the vibes are TERRIBLE I will not drive it on the road. The drive shaft seems OK. THere is a tiny bit of play at the CV end on the driveshaft. I just swapped my stock rear Samurai driveshaft in with no adapter (just redrilled Yota axle flange) & it isn't as bad as with the Yota D-shaft but still has bad vibes especially when accelerating from a stop & slowing down with the Zook in gear. I don't know if I should just spend the big bucks for a custom driveshaft, get another Yota shaft & try it, get a different adapter (maybe it was made wrong), or try to go back to an off-set rear axle again.

Take your Yota shaft to a DS shop and have them check it out.

Is that WHY your pinion bearing is shot? How long did it take you to get your D.S. from AAPA??

So it's offset by 1-1/2" & you have no vibes?

Well I got it from Dave at Asian auto, and it took like a week.

My pinion was shot from the donor axle I got, and it is not caused from the shaft.

Well, I guess I just need to get a different adapter or try another Toyota d-shaft. The thing that I don't like about the adapters that I had made up is they didn't make the circle in the middle of the adapter that protrudes out & into the Samurai t-case. Wouldn't it be centered good enough with just the four bolts that hold it on?

I just got done putting toy axles under my dads zuk. Used the same d-shaft spacers and a stock shaft. I turned the samurai flange 90 degrees to the holes in the toy flange and drilled them out to 5/16's

I got very lucky. It is as smooth as glass at all speeds.

Obviously your adapter or shaft is the largest part of your problem. You took them off and it got better. The CV may be worn out if it vibrates very hard under load and not much at all when at cruising speed. Either that, or axle wrap is causing your shaft to bind.

You might want to take your CV shaft to a local shop and have them check it for you, and possibly rebuild it. If your adapter is not within a few thousands of being centered, it will cause bad vibes. I think factory specs on a d-shaft is 0.005”, and I have had guys tell me that you should be able to feel that depending on the vehicle.

When I drilled my t-case flange, I measured and marked with a scribe from three separate point of reference, punched it, and drilled with a hand drill laying on my back in the driveway. Two holes ended up being about 1/16” or less off from my reference marks. I had to clearance all the holes to make the d-shaft fit.
Bottom line is that it vibrated so bad that I shifted to 2nd once, quickly shifted back to first, turned around and idle back to the house.
I ordered a Rockrat adapter to solve the problem, instead of finding another flange and risk screwing it up too.

Bottom line is, if your adapter, d-shaft, or anything else in your driveline is out of tolerance the vibrations will literally disintegrate your rig. (Ever had a U-joint destruct and limp home on it, same thing).

Good luck and keep us posted on your solution, no matter how simple or complex it is. I’m getting ready for a toy axle swap and am gathering info.

If the holes were off
OR
The tolerance of the bolt vs. hole used allowed the D-shaft and flange to move a few thousands of an inch.
To avoid this use a shoulder bolt and interference fit.

Bill, it sounds like your CV is toast. When I first put my Yota shaft in, it was sooooo bad that idling it in first gear I got BAD vibes and clunks. I took it to the driveline shop and they put a spicer CV in. Now, I have absolutely no vibes.

The other issue is pinion angle. You should be running the pinion about 3* or 4* below dead flat with the driveshaft. I am sure you know that, but I didn't see anyone mention it.

We are making a new pilot bushing to mate out dlines to your adapters.....the bolt pattern is nice though

We did have some problems mating a 1310 toy flange to it, so we went back to our other flange..

The centering ring does just that, the adaptors will do this for you or machine out the opening on a stock large flange t-case flange. The bolt only are there to supply clamping pressure.
