2 questions in one post

Q #1-- hey, i got the locker in, but lost my markings for the holes on the bearing retainer/adjuster, how do i re-adjust the ring/pinion clearence? i asked a local diff. shop and they want $97 to do it. do i gotta face it and pay or is there a way i can do it myself?

Q #2-- what do you guys have for front upper shock mounts? i want to run as long as possible and with an eyehole rather than the stock stud.

thanks a lot in advance guys

Not sure on sammi's but alot of toyota and a few ranger people use mid 80's f250 shock mounts. They are like 15 each from the ford dealer. The part # has been posted a bunch bet you could find it on the toy board

Gear set up

You can adjust your backlash using a magnetic base dial
indicater and set for .007- .009 thousandths for oem gears.
Try get back into the existing pattern or improper/premature wear will occur. Don't take it from me , though. Call Sean

hey thanks, but for the ford upper shock mounts--i thought those were the stud-type shock....although i could be wrong. and thanks for the diff advice!

has anyone heard the putty trick for pinion/ring lash? something like you put the putty in the ring gear and spin her (after it's all tightened up) and maesure how much the pinion squished the putty. im not sure of this procedure tho. just wondering if it is accurate and it works.

thanks dudes

Well, the ford shock towers are eye type. I know some guys have used them on Sammy's (and about everything else) but here's a pic of some on a Toyota:
<img src="http://www.tennessee4x4.com/toyota/images/r-c-fordshock2.jpg">

Part number at Ford dealer is E5TZ-18183-A and they range from $12-15 each.

gears

Hey guy just got done seting up new gears factory backlash
.004-.006 but if your between .005-.010 you should be ok
2nd get some gear marking compound and mark the ring gear on a few teath front and back rotate pinion around 4-5 times and watch for an even wear mark centered between heal and toe of ring gear not to worried about the flank marking as long as you did not remove pinion I can email you a setup sheet if you want it
good luck
