Sean, Than place sounds EXPENSIVE!!! Maybe I'm a cheapo but I think that is a lot to go wheeling. It would cost me 70 bucks for 2 days worth of riding.

What do you guys think? Too much??

Thats a lot of beer money, I don't think I'd pay $25 a day to wheel, a yearly fee of $25 would be OK.

Around here that is pretty much std. since pivate land seems to be the only good and legal place to wheel.

It's sad, but I feel lucky to have a place to go at all and gladly pay it.

Here on Oahu, off-road areas are getting smaller. 911 put a stop on military roads, transfer of ownership on a quarry now warned us to 'Keep Out' or else! And then the darn tree huggers with their 'save a plant' closed a very good rock area.

I'm gonna have to start look'n to move the Big Land of U.S.A.

Have you ever priced Paragon Adventure Park: http://www.paragonap.com/ or Big Dogs Offroad: http://www.bigdogsoffroad.com/ ? They are not too cheap either. Both are privately owned and the only way to get a "deal" is to bring a big group. Paragon and Big Dogs both have annual Suzuki only runs every year which are cheaper than paying the single vehicle fee. FlexySamurai is right up there at Paragon. He would know more about the fees and maybe he knows something about Rausch Creek. Flexy, you out there?

We are a bit spoiled since we only pay $5 per day to ride at Uwharrie.

Friggin amazing what stuff costs out here! We have very few places to "legally" wheel around here and those that are legal are typically expensive as you can see. I would rather pay the fees than pay the state for a friggin $200 trespassing ticket! I would also rather see the $$$ go to a private individual/company that sponsors events and supports the 4-wheeling community.

Most of Moab is free .... but I still think pay to play isnt a bad deal as long as the funds go to the area you are in .

I have to drive 300 miles for any decent four wheeling, I would pay 25 bucks in a second! It is so bad around here I have seen guys making paths out of busted up concrete.

Rausch Creek is a great place to wheel. They have trails from mild to WILD. There is some insane hill climbs there, plus there's a rock creek that is a mile long!! I have a lot of pictures on my site from RC:

http://odfab.50megs.com/2003/072003
http://odfab.50megs.com/2003/081703

I have not been to Paragon, but I have to imagine the terrain is pretty similar since they are only about 30 miles apart. We are supposed to be headed up to Paragon the 15th and then coming back down and riding RC on the 16th.

I don't mind paying the fees at all. These guys are doing a lot of work cutting trails all the time. The RC fee includes camping as well, but it's primitive.

I feel that paying to wheel is better than going out and looking over your shoulder because your some where your not suppose to be. I have not been to RC but I have heard it is nice. It is not as big or as many trails as Paragon. I feel that paragon as the best rock crawling on the east coast!

You need to come pay us a visit. We host clubs and groups regularly. I'm done for the year since hunting season is in. But come march plan a trip up. I'll give you all that you want and then some. We have several new trails picked out to clear, and would greatly appreciate any help. I've got one that is very similar to rattle rock.

Here's a write up from C.O.R.E. when they rode with us.
http://www.core4x4club.com/

We are not that far away. Most of our trails are near Summersville WV.

Our club has done a couple of runs and some trail cutting up at Rausch creek and the one thing that it has over Paragon is that most of the hard stuff has easy stuff nearby so you can keep a group with trucks/drivers wanting to run different levels close together and happy. I personally still prefer PAP, but if you are considering driving up from the south you could make it a 4 day trip and do two days in each park ( Th, F at PAP - Sat and Sun at Rausch Creek).

Pay to play is the answer here in the east where the public trails can all be run easily on 31s.

Another option to consider up this way - the Big Dogs events in Gore, VA - They run 5 rides and 2 comps over the course of the year. http://www.bigdogsoffroad.com/ Their next event will be Icebreaker sometime in late March or early April. They definitely have trails from mild to wild - as Convertiyota can attest.

Silverzuki, we will try to plan a run to see y'all in WV this coming year. I really enjoyed the trails over there, but after driving my trail rig over the mountains, I swore I wouldn't do that again until I had a trailer and tow rig - got them now.

Hey Sean.

Who all is coming up with you guys?? CJ, Steve and Donnie coming up? I will be at PAP on the 15th as well with a club ride. I may stay up to watch you guys at Rausch on Sunday. Bruce found a new ridge line above 6 that has some crazy lines on it. Much bigger than Crawler Ridge.

You are right, PAP and Rausch have a lot of the same terrain. The trail network continues to grow at Rausch. We were cutting strong into the summer, but the bees attacked us one day while cutting and we decided to take a break until winter. We will be back at cutting some more trails soon.

Hey Sean. Sent you an email back.

I am now debating on staying overnite up there somewhere so I can wheel with you on Sunday. Look for us in the staging area on Saturday. I will be with EC4x4E on a club ride up there.

Not sure excaxtly because I don't have it in front of me but they are all along the caol road. You can hit anyone of them if you go to the park. I think some might be guide only but not sure. Steve (1MEANYJ) and I had some trouble with the buggie at that comp so we didn't get to see many of the cources. I will be at GONZOOKIN and we will hit them.

Sweet Trail! I will definately have to hit it when we go up for GonZookin.
Again, Does anyone know who will be organizing the GonZookin Event for 2004??? This year it was Jeff Johnson, but he talked like he may not be able to organize it for 2004.....maybe I should just start a new post?
