I don't post often but I figured the internet could use more modified Tracker/Sidekick photos. Here is our latest ZUK-N-OVATIONS build.

The objective with this build was to create an alternative to the somewhat expensive belt driven side by sides which have dominated the off road market. A few guys on our team had some modified Kawasaki Teryx 4 UTV's which oddly enough have roughly the same overall dimensions as the Geo Tracker. As a test we decided to do a custom build to create a budget Tracker version of a side x side.

The results of our build were exactly what we had hoped. We had created a reliable, 4 wheel drive, 1.6L UTV that could go anywhere the Teryx could go for half the cost. The real beauty of the Tracker is that it still has both AC and heating, is completely street legal and will hold 75 down the highway!

Step one was to buy DOT approved UTV tires (28" Kanati Mongrels) and see how the Geo handled them. The results were so good that we decided the build was definitely worth pursuing. We added a Low Range Off Road 2" Spacer Lift to gain just a bit of ground clearance without sacrificing ride quality.

From there we decided the stock dash was just not going to work. If we were going to create a rig that really felt and drove like a side x side, we need the driver to have a better cockpit to work from. The dash was ripped out while maintaining all of the standard controls and equipment. We built a very tight custom cage then followed it up with a laser cut dash assembly to give it a one of a kind look and feel.

Ha yeah of course its not a SXS. Its a Geo Tracker. The original idea was to improve the suspension but ultimately there would not be enough return for the investment to increase travel for that IFS.

It really is just an improved stock Geo Tracker at heart. The beauty of the custom cage and dash is to give the driver a better feel behind the wheel. That stock dash is just pathetic.

There are a large number of suspension kits available for the front of a Tracker that increase wheel travel. Old Man Emu struts have significantly more travel than the stock struts and don't require any other supporting mods.

Adding lockers, starting with an automatic tracker, and choosing a tyre size appropriate for the weight and size of the vehicle would have been priorities.

Have you considered rear occupant safety into your cage design? I wouldn't feel safe sitting in the rear of that car at all - too much tube my head can collide with.

I also like the idea of having a 4 seasons rig. My Sidekick was originally purchased just for a Bach toy. It has grown into all around off road toy. I also prefer driving it in the road, more than my new truck. The new vehicles get used for family road trips and the wife's DD.

It may not have the performance of a SXS, but I would prefer it for most of my off road driving.

Do you have any pics of the roll cage or bumper builds?

Removing the dashboard makes the rollcage install so much cleaner. I drive mine on the road. After being hit by a drunk driver, I want airbags.

A cage would be great, but it would mostly be just for the sake of building a cage. I don't hard core wheel or race. I am also in 4dr hardtop.

These have been on the ground under a tracker for over 4 years now. no they aren't DOT and no I don't care. Yes I drive it on pavement, ALOT! With a spool in the rear and a locker up front. Same tires on their second tracker. The pics of the white one were taken about 2 weeks ago.
