I just went straight back and through the tailgate, filled in the open area and installed a YJ rear seat. I also moved the seat all the way back to the tailgate (which is welded shut from the inside). The kids asses say the YJ seat is MUCH more comfortable.

is the gas tank in the original position? or, did you move it up and rest the seat on top of it?

if you have any detailed pics, that would be great!!

btw, great post islandzuki!! the timing couldn't be better. i'm trying to make the same decision right now for my rig. the problem for me is trying to keep the rear seat in tact for the dogs and "future" kiddos.

Yeah.. what he said.... I've been wondering how to move the rear axle back, keep the rear seat, and the gas tank too.. I cant see it anywhere in the pic.

Off on a tangent, but that's a fawked up looking shock setup.....

Maybe it works just fine, just never seen it done like that. Is there some functional reason for laying the shocks over to the back like that??

looks like a poly fuel cell, either raised up into the cab a bit, or less depth than the stock tank. You can ssee the fuel line attachments directly below the bumper in between the two passenger side tail lights.

Great thread, I've also thought about doing this to mine. I really like the dovetail look, saw Rob's (white rig, works with/for Dave from Asian Auto) at the con a few years ago and really liked it.

Would also like to see more pics of the front dovetail, never thought of doing that. More details on the gas tank issue would be great too.
