What tcase?
looking at possibly a toy axle swap in my 2wd 92 tracker..so i'll be needing to get driveshafts..intermediate shafts..tcase..and of course axles
what tcase should i look at? heard toy tcases are good..but how easy would it hookup? is it better than the sammy or kick/tracker tcases? i have a lead on a sammy tcase i will be keeping stock 1.6 8v engine..so not putting alot of HP through it..but want the best bang for the buck while im down there, which would be easier to upgrade if i needed to do that later..which would be stronger..easier to swap in..etc thanks!

Um...Trackers don't have intermediateshafts if you are going to use a tracker 4wd tranny/tcase. Trying to put a Samurai case in would just be a pain in the ass. The tracker doesn't have the low high range, but not a huge loss. Get something from OTT and dual case it.

get a sammi t-case, and divorce mount it behind you 2wd tranny. That's what I'm gonna do, and I'm already 4wd! And from what I have heard the D44 would be a better choice then the yota axles. From what I have read, the 44's are just the right width, whereas yota's axles need spacers to fit properly.
Oh yeah, Search newbie!!

Oh, Danas just the right width? depends if you want your tires to stick way out or not. Also, what "spacers" do you speak of to make a yota axle fit properly?

exactly..im a newb, but shit, i know whats up somewhat the toy axles are within half an inch diff of width on the tracker axles..so, itd look "stock" width wise..without the "fullsize" look, wouldnt need a spacer? i found a sammy tcase and was wanting to divorce it..but im mainly worried abuot driveshaft lengths..and then the adapaters to get it all to hook up right..and of course the offset |

Like I said above, the spacers would be needed for more width. The proof I saw was just a stablilty thing. Wider is better, but doesn't fit as well also. I guess that was what I was getting at. From the pics I have seen, a sammi case divorced behind a tracker t-case gave a livable angle for the rear d-shaft (and some vibs), and if you remove the stock t-case, and have just the sammi t-case, the d-shaft angle would be fine, I'm sure, but I havn't head anything about vibs. As far as adapters go, I said fawk it. I'm sourcing a 2wd tracker tranny, and gonna just divorce it behind that. Only thing I'll have to worry about is the crossmember, and d-shafts.

I'd say that since you already have a 2wd tranny, just put in a sammy t-case with a shortened intermediate shaft. That's what I'm running in my samurai. Shouldn't be too hard to fit into a kick. As for axles, I like the toy axles better. They are lighter, more ground clearance, pleanty strong for a kick or sammy, and have drop out diff's which are nice when installing lockers or gears. The offset thing doesn't seem to be much of an issue as long as you run a CV rear driveshaft. I have no issues with my toy axles.

Well, if I may add my 2 cents here.
I would first ask myself, "what kind of wheeling do I want to do with this?' that will tell alot on how to build. In other words, build accordingly. You said you want a cheep wheeler, well there is nothing 'cheep' in wheeling. that said, the Zuki based wheeler is the cheepest, reliable wheeler I have seen yet. So you have started with a good base. What drivtrain to add? well, personally I like reliability and repairability with the lowest wieght, so personally, that leaves the Dana axles out. Your tracker is a 2wd, so your easiest route would be to use the divorced Samurai t-case and the toyota axles. Use a CV shaft on the rear to deal with the offset of the t-case outputs, and run it. its a good reliable setup for light to medium wheeling. If you want to keep the stock trans, but want a centered output for the rear axle, use a divorced toyota t-case setup, but you will need the Toyota t-case divorced kit from OTT for that. If you want to get the best reliability/strength for the money, it will cost more, but you cant beat the Toyota transmision/t-case combo. You will need the RingR and such for this swap. Contact Rockrat. Buying Toy axles? try to get a '84-'85 front axle, to get the factory trussing. I would not worry about the axle width issue, your going to have to buy new rims most likely, so get a 2" offset and you should be fine. Hope that helps you out.

good information, and yes nothing hardcore like rock crawling, just trials..articulation..dunes possibly, etc..
i can get some front toy 3" lift springs *stiff as hell but can mix up leefs if needed* from a friend from his 85 toy, and he will end up replacing his rear springs with 5" allpro's also...so lift is already on the way i want to keep it simple and cheap..i know wheeling isnt CHEAP, but i want it as cheap as possible..just to keep cost down, since this is just a lil cheap project 4 me, i'll try and go ahead and get the sammy tcase and all those goodies and start getting parts together..next challenge is to find 2 toy axles..preferably 84-85 like you said..stronger housings and then the truss correct? thanks for all the help guys |

Just what it looks like. A super thick all billet sammy based t-case. Haven't broke one yet. Did most of the runs in moab and thousands of road miles. PM me if you want one.
