Gearing ?

I'm looking to build a double duty zuk and was wondering about gearing and power.

I'd like to run stock 1.3, 5spd, and toy axles with 4.10s

I want to be able to run 65mph comfortably. What size tires can I run with this and what gear in the t-case.

Would 6:1 and 35's work?

whos 6.1 gears are you talking about? most of them have different high range gear downs.

5th gear is .795(if your pre 88.5)
under drive from the tcase is 1.409 stock

When I had the stock 1.3 in my Sammie with 5.89:1 t-case from Calmini, 4.57 Yukon gears on 33's, 65 was acheivable, barely. Any hill, including freeway overpasses, would bog me down considerably.

So even properly geared, you will probably not be able to cruise 65 "comfortably" with the 1.3. With the 1.6 16v I can now cruise "comfortably" at 75.

from what I've heard and hearing here, I'm I better off just swapping in a complete yota drivetrain?

Daily driving with a 1.3 is not reasonable??

Depends on what speed you need for daily driving. If you mean highway, then forget it.

When I had the stock 4.10 gears and 35's, the 1.3 could get it to 65mph, but only on downhills. The best realistic speed on flat ground (at least at my 5000 foot altitude) was about 50mph.

I switched to 5.29 gears and it made a significant difference. The top speed really isn't any higher, 55mph at 4000rpm in 5th gear, but the driveability is much improved. Now I can at least accelerate through the gears and keep up with normal street traffic and I have 5th gear back.

If you need to go faster than 55mpg, stick with smaller tires or get more horse power (i.e. 1.6 16V).

I'm sure going with a toy 22R would do it as well, but do you really want to add that much weight? With toy axles, 35's, PS, 8k winch, and half a cage, I'm already up to 2700 lbs. Start adding more heavy toy parts and you might as well just skip the zuk and wheel a toy.
