How often to these things fail. I have a '90 Tracker. The switch would intermittently fail to engage the starter. It has gotten worse. Initially, I thought it was burned contacts in the starter solenoid or something. When you turn the switch and it attempted to engage, there was a distinct click from the starter solenoid, but the starter did not engage. After a few clicks, it turned and fired up.
Sometimes, the switch has to be wiggled a bit in order to get the thing to engage (or click for that matter). Yesterday, I was almost stranded... though I probably woulda hot-wired it or something... The reason I'd say the switch needs replacing, is that if I turn the switch
all the way forward that the switch allows... nothing happens, but as I back off slowly, the starter clicks.
I'm not confusing it with the fuel pump...
How far am I off the mark, for those with similar experiences. If anyone
has experienced this... was this the problem, or am I wrong?
