Quick release steering hub question..
I'm considering putting a quick release hub on the zuk steering wheel.
Does anyone know what size the shaft is at the steering wheel? Thanks!

no, but you can measure it. How quick of a release do you want? if you take off they 'wheel and put a wire brush on a 4"grinder and take it to the splined shaft, you should be able to remove just enough material from the splines to make the 'wheel slide off much easier, especially if you grease it. just don't use a lockwasher under the nut and only put it handtight. Not for daily driving obviously. Mine is torqued tight with a lockwasher and I didn't even brush the splines and I can wiggle it off in about 15 seconds after I get the nut off. jd
P.s. get a bolt gauge and a metric thread pitch gauge to measure it. or just take the nut to a bolt shop. If you ain't got one my buddy works at a strictly bolt shop and I could find out. Actually I have a bolt gauge. just not a pitch gauge for nuts, only bolts. |

the splined section is roughly 14mm and the thread 12mm 1.25 I think the quick disco's are around 3/4" 36 spline

Summitracing has a two weld on hubs at 5/8" and 3/4" sizes, and 11/16" 36 spline GM, 13/16" 40 spline Ford, and 11/16" 36 spline Mopar hubs..
So 14mm (0.55118") is too small for 5/8" coupler (0.625") even a 3/4" (0.75") . So I would probably have to machine a spacer to get it right on the money. Thanks!
