At a cross roads
Ok here's the deal. I am at a cross roads with my modifications and can't quite decide which way to go. I have a stock 1.3L, recently rebuilt, with a spoa and 31's, and a 4:1 transfercase. The motor runs fine, has some lilttle carb problems, and burns some oil, but nothing huge.
First scenario is to buy some 5.13's for the axles and lock them front and rear. I tow except for errands around town so RPM's are not an issue. Second one is to buy a 1.6L 8V. I can get the motor for around $200.00. It comes with the throttle body injection, I will just need to buy an ecu and a modified wiring harness. I should have enough left to buy a spool for the rear end. The deal on the gears isnt a killer deal anyway and I can find them at the price I was trying to get anytime. But I dont see alot of 1.6L go for that price hard to find around here. My main thing is my 1.3L is in good shape and runs good, so I dunno what to do. It would be hella nice to get some more low end torque and FI.....Anyway any opinons are welcome. |

Get a Midwest Performance Weber setup. A lot of people trash the Weber because of off-road angles, but Sarge modifies them for 45+ degrees. I got a 38DGAS from him and it runs faster than any 1.6L 8v I have ever seen! That coupled with a Calmini header, 2" exhaust and SUMOII head, this thing will take most stock Hondas off the line!

Well I could always run the 1.6L carbed anyway. I have talked to sarge before and I know he does good work. But it is still a carb, FI is so much more reliable.
I have gone extreme with samurai's before (4.3L and 36's) and thats not the plan for this one. 31's will probably be the max that this rig see's. Someday maybe 33's but even then the stock axles would be fine for the mild crawling that I do. |

Buy the 1.6 pack it away for another time. At that price you could always unload it easily if needed. If and when the 1.3 needs major work do the swap then. Just remeber to moth ball the 1.6 so it will be just as good when you did want to do somtthing with it. Just my .02

You mentioned lockers.. I wanna say that next to my gears my lockers did more to make me trail worthy than anything. And I'm not sure but what in some conditions the lockers would be better than the gears.

1.3s are not exactly plentiful around here. So I would get the 1.6, use the EFI for sure, and unload the 1.3.
