thanks for the info! Its 2 below zero outside, be a good time to finally do the hydo assist. Did you modify the ends of the ram at all like some have done for rod ends? Doesn't look like it in the pic. And did you tap the celica box your self?

After I was done I know I could have made both ends that came on cylinder work. Just need to mount in a way that both piviot bolts would be vertical and cylinder would be parallel to tie rod. I didnt really need heim joint. ![]() ![]() And yes I drilled and tapped the Celica box myself.

This is were I drilled and tapped. ![]() ![]() In the pictures you can see I didnt use the hoses from surplus center, Only because I can make them myself at work. My hoses are about 34'' long so the 36'' long hoses from SC should work fine. This is the info I followed for drill my steering gear and pump mods. This is for a toyota IFS gear, But the Celica Gear is the same just smaller. http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=10579.0

I have to update my parts list.
Insted of ordering 4 of these fitting. http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.as...name=hydraulic 1/4NPTM to 1/4NPTF 90 degree swivel. Order 3 but then order one of these in place of the 90 degree fitting. http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.as...name=hydraulic 1/4NPTM to 1/4NPTF 45 degree swivel. I was looking at mine again and figured that a 45 degree fitting into the side of the gear would make connecting hose alot easer. ![]() You can see in the picture, I used a hose with a crimped on 90 degree fitting attached to hose. The hose from Surplus center has a straight fitting end. So I think a 45 degree fitting threaded into gear in this location will work better. Sorry about that one guys. I should have caught that one.

Great thread.... I've wanted to do this but didn't have the budget for it right now with "CHRISTmas" and all... I have the same steering you have and was going to install it next week, glad you posted this I'll get the extra parts to do it all... I got a used RRO power steering kit that he had on his 1.3ltr do you know if that will work on my 1.6ltr 16valve ?? What kit are you using for the kick pump to attach to the motor ?? Thanks again for the info... MOSDIF589

I'm running toyota pump and gear. The RRO Toyota power steering pump bracket for the 1.3L motor will not bolt onto the 1.6L 16V motor. The exhaust manifold on the 1.6L is larger than the 1.3L. The RRO pump bracket mounts very close to the exhaust manifold on the 1.3 motor. Exhaust manifold is in the way on 1.6L I built my own pump bracket for the 1.6L 16V motor. The bracket is a componation of the stock Celica bracket and some modifing by me. The pump pulley is from a Toyota tercel and the ideler pully is off some Mazda car. Dont rember witch one. Tercel pulley does not fit right on Celica pump. I had to drill out center of pulley for pump shaft diameter and file out the key way a little, but it was very easy to do. Dont know if the pictures show much, but this is the pump bracket I built. ![]() ![]() The bracket I build will fit on both the 1.3L and the 1.6L 16V motors. Heres another one I built but on a 1.3L motor. ![]()

Again, the info has been great! Thanks! I've been running the celica box for several years now, but I decided to go to the sagnaw pump from a waggoneer after my toy pump died. Lots of fluid now and no problems of heat. Turns 35's easily except in the roughest terrain crossed up. Looking to go to 37's and want to relieve some stress from the box and other parts. So hydro assist is the way to go for me.

Just wondering. I dont think the weak link is the Celica gear, I know the Celica pumps can fail, blow fluid out the front seal and so on, But I've never seen the gear fail. And now with the hydro it should take alot of the work load off the gear.
