T-case gears

Ive heard mixed feelings...Lets just say money is NOT an option. Whos t-case gears are best? RRO, Trail tough, calmini, or petroworks (did i leave anyone out)? Let me know from personal experience... ~tx

I have personaly experienced 50k miles with a petroworks grs2,the only bad thing was a slight oil leak that HEALED itself.These new 6to1 gears are interesting <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

yes, you did leave someone out....lol

these New Sumo 6.1's are first off "so strong" I bet you can't break them....
second just wait until you see the teeth on them, they are top quality.....and they run so quite!

we tested a set this weekend on the 2 hardest trails offered at the AZ Jamboree this weekend....both 4.5+....we did break an axle....(stock Zuk short side)

cool thing about these gears..we were able to jump out and be our own "spotter" without a worry of the Zuk getting away....bad part was watching the guys behind us slip their clutch to keep from running over us...lol

sold a couple sets too this weekend...some guys just loved the way they worked!

I don't anyone is worried about the gear, the think the issue is the T case itself. Also 2 trails is hardly a test. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

7.5's have been run in the same case, just to see how strong the case is....it was modified to fit the gears....and it held up!

the t-case will hold up to the 6.1's...if you keep oil in it....lol

these 2 trails were a great test....we drove 100 miles just to get there with the gears..no trailer (yet)

ask around Lower Woodpecker and Axle Alley are plenty tough enough to see if the 6.1 Sumo gears are strong enough, and slow enough....

what test did you read about being done on any other t-case, or lower gearing before you got one?

I was amazed how quite they run...

I wish you could try a set and see for yourself how these gears work....but the line is too long to start handing them out for a test...:-)

Thats cool shit! kind of a "reach in, turn the key, and let her rip" kinda thing. Sounds like that could be the way to go now...Whats the going price for these things?

If money is not an option take a look at the Klune unit, goes between the Zuk tranny and t-case and gives you another 4 gears. Otherwise I'd try one of the new 6:1 gearsets, they are cheaper than the 4.89's.

after a good nights sleep....from a long weekend of wheeling...I thought about this question and my first reply...

I know some guys add beefed up t-case arms when they use the GRS t-case gears....going the extra step to the 6.1's will also cause a little more stress to the arms....but I am sure the case will hold up to the pressure..

and if 2 trails over a 200 mile round trip are not enough...we'll keep testing these and keep you all posted how they work....

so far the things that have impressed me the most about the gears is how quite they run in low range and at full blast in high range on the road....put up against a 4.89 with the same tires and diff gears..the Sumo 6.1's are about the same speed in high range, but nice and lower in low range....

btw, (fatkid) did you see my neighbor in a BIG green Commando Jeep? he was with a few guys from Driven Auto Parts and their Broncos....
sure wish I could have went with them, and you could have drove my Zuk to test them out yourself...

When it comes to testing something like a gear set or a running gear piece I was thinking more like a few thousand miles. And again I've never heard any doubts about the gears, I've heard people start to wounder how much the T-case can with stand before it comes apart. Anyhow where did you get your 6/1 and how much? <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Sounds like you got yourself a potentially popular product.
It's good that you have alot of people ordering these now. What you need to understand is, the people that are ordering them now are for the most part people that have more $ than wheeling experience. Those people will buy these gear sets and the hardest trails they will see will be TDS <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">
If you want to keep the orders coming you need some solid proof of all around strength and reliability.
Why don't you caugh up a set and let the TIN <IMG SRC="smilies/skull.gif" border="0">BENDERS give them the hammer test. We'll give you a fair test under normal "Hammer" conditions. After that we'll take em to the Rubicon and where ever else you want to complete the test. When we are done, I will write a product review on the results and get it published on any of the top 5 (.com) sites.

Independant testing is where it's at.
Our club has done this kind of testing before. Worked so good, the guy couldn't handle the results and had to sell the design to a bigger business to handle the volume.

Dtoys right test it at the Hammers, if it's got a weak spot it would show at Johnson Valley. But still it's going to take more than one or two runs, how about 6 months in this neck of the woods? <IMG SRC="smilies/skull.gif" border="0">

we're doing just fine testing them in my Zuk....;-)

as for 37's (from another post) as soon as I can stuff stronger axles under my Zuki..I plan on going with larger tires too....I have no doubt these gears and case will handle hold up to whatever you want to power them with..the teeth are the same ones in the Indy cars..that push like what a thousand horse power? the Suzuki case has held up to 7.5's, but it has to be cut and welded to add the size of gears...and wouldn't be easy to market.

if anyone wants to try a set of these gears out..just bring your Zuk out here and we'll put them in and you can try them on some EXTREME trails we have close by....best I can do...but you have to bring them back..lol

we don't want to get too big and try to sell everyone a set.....want to keep the quality the way it is....

Dave, just talked to Barry at 4 Wheeler Supply. He mentioned a trail in the White Tanks somewhere by the Zoo. Supposed to be a 50 foot waterfall you have to winch down

If that's the case you have the wrong hobby. Plan on spending at least a grand on gears at some point, and if your serious about rock crawling the lower the be$$er.
