Iron duke into a sammi tranny help
My buddy has an '88 sammi, and he wants to stuff a 2.5l Iron duke and t-18 or similar tranny into it. Is there a belhousing that can be used to mate the two together? If so, where can I find it (wrecking yards, maybe) Does somebody have one sitting in their backyard maybe??

The Jeep 2.5 Iron Puke has a Chev bolt pattern...... Any chev tranny will bolt to this engine... like an SM420 for example
Only one thing though ..... after he is done the truck isn't going to be light weight anymore...

we wound up picking up a 88 IronDuke out of a S-10 pickup. He origionally wanted to run a block that had the waterpump inlet on the side of the block (instead of the front) but didnt realize that the block AND waterpump was different until we had the thing out, and was paying for it... (he thought the water pump was the only difference) We found a T-5, grabbed it too.
I tried talking him into a np435 sitting in a ford, but it wasnt pulled out like the T-5 was, so thats what we got When I brought up the idea of taking the short block back and exchanging it for the front wheel drive version. (offers about 3 inches more clearance due to waterpump location) He feels that the extra 3 inches lost due to the water pump are worth the assurance (???) that we wont fall victim to over heating like the front wheel drive cars did. Hmmmm other thoughts Gearing=out. Owner feels that motor is P.O.S. and not worth saving, better motor wont need lower gears. This is a daily driver too... Motor=fried Burnt exaust valves, 170k on clock. Iron dukes are cheap and plentifull. We are cheap and stubborn bastards I'm the cheap one, I would have spent $1 for a half gallon of gas to burn the thing to the ground. He is the stubborn one, refusing to give up on a lost hope! |
