yota vs. dana axle's

I already read this...../forum/suzuki/120802-faq-dana-axle-swap-info.html

it just turned out to be a build up thread, but after reading Chris's build up, it's inspired me to do the same, so I went out and got a sami...........actually it was given to me, anyways I've got a 14blt rear and a gm D60 axle that I was going to put in my other project that I don't wanna do anymore, are those axles' too big???
I was considering a D44 rear and a D30 front, b/c I have readily access to housing's parts, basically everything for them, what's it going to make those work? I notice the different offset diff's.......are the toyota axles really that strong???
I just feel more comfortable using Jeep axles

I don't know much but I know you probably don't want to waste time or money on a front D30 swap. If you are going to do it, put something up front that's worth it. D44, Toys, GM.

Some quick numbers are:
Toyota stock birfield - 3,700 ft. lbs. before failure
Longfield 30 spline 4340 Toyota super set - 9,000 ft. lbs. before failure
Stock Dana 44 inner - 5,000 ft. lbs. before failure
Stock Dana 60 inner - 8,300 ft. lbs. before failure
Yukon Dana 60 35 spline 4340 - 11,000 ft. lbs. before failure
so, a yota with longfields is quite strong!

Stock Toy axles = Dana 44
Beefed Toy axles = Dana 60
(It's on the internet so it can't be wrong )

I second the skipping of the Dana 30. Even with the light weight of a sami those are still poo. A guy in our club had a 30 front and had nothing but problems with it.

thanks guys................I now see the light, I just traded a built 14blt I have for a rock jock 60" wide, and then I'll get a built front yota axle, my understanding is the front yota axle is under 60"'s will putting spacers on thier be decent to match the rear width?

I used a 78 waggy 44 narrow track. Not as big as a full size but wider than a yota. Here apic when I was setting it up.

I went with the wide waggy D44 set up front and rear, mostly because I wanted the extra width right from the get go without spacers or severley backspaced rims.

I think I will be 72" wide outside of tire to out side of tire. I don't have the rest of my wheels yet. This is with a 41" tire I wish I was going to be wider.

is there such thing as "too big" run with the 14/60...it'll be sick...

here's mine with full width 44/9"... all 83" of it

like ShadowCrawlers, still needs few finishing touches, but most of the work is behind me now...

You have 11" of width on me. I wish I had that. Due to my beadlock wheel purchase I need to remain 6 lug so that either limits my choices or makes them expensive.

alright so I got my axles, I got my old currie rock jock back from the guy I sold it to, it's 60" wide, and some guy that say's he's famous with suzuki's brought me my front '85 yota axle, I haven't measured to see what the difference is, but I'm sure I'll have to get wheel spacers in the front, I did however place my order for longfields

It's actually in Penrose, and is called Independence Trail. It's pretty short but I have seen alot of breakage happen out there. It's short and sweet for being local .

Oh yeah, the axles on our rig are 76 waggys, narrow width. Not sure what outside measurement is.

BTW picked up a toy IFS box today tapped with a ram for 150

I love hydro assist on my other zuk!

Swapping out wheels isnt an option. I am stuck with these and if need be will build the entire rig around them. Popular PS swaps are Toy IFS or FJ boxes. I ran the IFS box and never even installed my hydro assist. I wheeled with the ARB locked all day and couldn't even tell the PS worked so well. 85 Toy axle is 55.5" in stock form.

On my green Samurai with toys we used a kick box tapped for hydro assist. I can steer with one hand all day long .

My dads, the black zuk, we used a toy ifs box with a kick pump and it steers quite well for running a welded front and 2psi on the rocks. There are times that we have to rock it back and forth to make it steer. My plan since before the build was to use hydro assist, but it has worked up till now. I went to look at a toy motor for my dads girlfriend, and the guy had an ifs box tapped with a ram on the floor so I picked it up.

In my oppinion hydro assist is the way to go next to full hydro, and you can still legally drive it on the road.
