Best Carb ever...

Gents,

As we all know the standard sammy carb is often crappy.
Many people switch to new aftermarket parts like webber and so on.
Probebly more people go to the wrecker and find a fitting carb and run that one.

Personaly I love the 87 Suzuki Swift 1.3 GS constant vacuum carb Also found on some Toyota models.

I just want to know what type of carb you all run on your 1.3 or 1.6 CARBT engine (so not fuel injection)

Kind regards

Auke

Do you guys ever go up or down steep hills or get off-camber?

I hate carbs. They suck.

I run a Nikki carb on my 1.3 zook. Way better performance than standard Aisin. Better than a weber as they don't flood out so easy when driven up steep stuff but same sort of power gain. Probably the best standard engine performance upgrade you can make. I got a header, cam, skimmed and ported head and the carb gave more extra power than the other mods put together.

I too have a stocker with no complaints. On steep up/down there are zero issues. Side hills make it load up a bit but I try to avoid side hilling if at all possible.

I think the only car a nikki was fitted to as standard was a Mazda RX.
They were mainly sold as aftermarket performance replacements, so you can find them as kits for anything from a VW to a Ford.
Very popular in Europe - do a search on eBay - you usually see a few for sale... Pitty they are no longer made (Weber won that fight, lol!).

Forgot to say, one of the BIG advantages of the Nikki for fitting to the Suzuki is that it so happens that the position of the bolt holes to mount it line-up perfectly with the standard manifold, so no adapter needed.

vacuum hoses, Nikki Carb

My sammi has 3miles of hoses, Were you able to connect all of the stock hoses to thr Njkki carb? Maybe this is more simple tha I think and all carbs has a basic vacuum port? Please shed light.

That's the other good thing about the Nikki - its very simple compared to Aisin. It only needs the vac advance hose from the dizzy, all the ones that come off the manifold simply get blocked off to stop air leak. The coolant pipe that goes into the Aisin is also redundant, so you close off the coolant by bypassing the carb and connecting it back into the engine. This is very similar to Weber install less the adpator - it has manual choke so will need a cable adding. I also modified the standard plennum chamber to fit the carb so I could run a K&N in the standard airbox.

Smog Legal

Does the Nikki carb meet smog legal requirements in California or once installed are you doomed to the eternal green sticker/take your chances with the law?

No idea in Cali law so can't help on that - so probably have to take your chances with the law! It has passed on UK MOT certificate (once year road-worthiness test) but think this is more lenient a test. My August test readings were CO @ 0.59% vol (limit <= 3.50) and HC @ 220 (limit <= 1,200) if that helps.

Just like a weber, no matter how good it runs, you'd never pass a visual with any experienced smog tech.
