Any tall samurai owners? Other questions from a zuki newb.
I'm thinking about getting a samurai as a DD. How friendly are they to someone around 6'3"? I've never been in one.
What kind of mileage do they get? There's a low mileage one listed about 15 miles from here for $1800, 1986, manual tranny, new top, etc. 80k miles or so. I'm going to try to take a look tomorrow, but if it's a no go on leg room I won't bother. Thanks

Cool, thanks for the replies. I got some pics from the guy, it has ghetto wide rims with low profile tires on it. Other than that and the pimp velour door panels it looks pretty clean.

I'm 6'3" and have absolutely zero fitment issues. In fact, you'll find the Samurai has more interior space than many other larger SUVs.

So, what about mileage on the highway?
As far as interior space, it sounds like I'll be fine. I drove a friends YJ for a few days and thought it was OK. Any common problems I should look for?

I'm 6'2" and I have no problem. Lack of power is obvious but you have to use all of it's RPM's and you will be surprised how quickly you can get around. I just hit 90 MPH on the freeway yesterday. I drive in the fast lane always. I'm running bone stock 1.3 w/ 80k

Mpg will depend... Best I have gotten on a full tank was about 27mpg, one day I went out for a sunday drive with the missus, only burnt like 1.5 gals, but got 32mpg.
Worst I have gotten was 18mpg. but that was a very windy week and my tires were still aired down from off roading. damn things are so light sometimes it is hard to tell you only have 10-15 lbs in the tires. From what I can tell wind plays the major role in fuel economy.. strong head wind you are fucked... stock 93 1.3L EFI sammi with 94k miles 235/75/15's btw. Height-wise you should be OK...........but you'll be rubbing elbows with your passenger, and your left shoulder will be against the window. Samurai's are very narrow. Not a problem if your girlfriend is sitting next to you, but some guys have issues with personal space.

Im 6' 2" and have no problems height wise and the only thing that bothers me is power you lose a good amount of speeds going uphill and if theres a headwind your screwed and average fuel economy for me is about 25 mpg mainly due to alaskan roads.

25-30mpg will be a huge improvement over the 10-13 I get with my truck.
I looked at this one, and am passing on it. The fit was not bad, peppier than I expected. Found another with 61,000 for $1000, will take a look tonight.

I'm 6'2" 185lb. I fit fine in the stock seats with stock brackets. I Daily Drove this for a year, and I still miss it sometimes.
I was getting 28-29 mpg on the highway. I kinda wish I had 1 for trails, and 1 for DD.

Your milage will really depend on a few things, wind like they said if you run a top on it (if you don't snug it down real good it's like having a sail on it) if it's stock or lifted, (mines on yotas and 35's" if i have a tail wind down hill the whole way i get great gas milage) id say get one though and then you'll wanna get another one then probly 1 more then you'll see a pic of an LWB Zuk and you'll hafta have or build one of those too.
Welcome to the disease theres no cure for.

I am 6' 2", and I have no problem with leg-room.
I run a stock (I do run 225/75 tires...a little taller than stock) 91 EFI with a fiberglass hardtop and can get as good as 32-33 MPG...although it seems to usually run about 28. That is figured by using almost a full tank of gas (usually put in around 9 gallons)...not driving 50-100 miles then figuring MPG.

im 6'1" and 200lbs i fit fine. at one point i was commuting with a guy who was 6'2" 250 and we fit cozzy.....this has been my daily driver for 2 years now and i get anywhere from 30-18 mpg i live in the santa cruz mountains off hwy 9(motorcycle and sport car play ground in the summer) it is a super windey road with alot of elevation changes. in the winter when im going alot slower and not reving over 3k im getting the 30. But in the summer i use all the rpm and take it to 6k before shifting and ill get 18-21 somtimes drifting around the corners. On the freeway with no head wind i can get it to 90mph...... stock 1.3 with a few mods: thorley header into 3 chamber flowmaster, taylor wires, power of four plugs, carb flat-spot fix, k&n filter, msd coil and msd 6al ignition box, center force dual friction clutch, front and rear sway bars. for tires im running black rock crawlers with 2.5 offset and smallest interco all terrains 29x10.50x15. i am low and wide..no tippy tippy for me. i have a 1.6 16 valve that i am slowly gathering all the parts to do the conversion to the daily driver, next summer......i want to keep this one stock height though it is so much fun to drive.
