Yep, that is as cheap as it gets for an all inclusive 2.0 swap. No one else makes a kit except for Trail Tough. More info:

1600 Engine Adapter Kits

This adapter kit uses Trail Tough's original tried and proven 2-stage stud design for adapting the 1.6 engine to the Samurai. It eliminates the need for drilling or welding and makes installation of the transmission easier than ever before! Just bolt it on.
Item # SAK-200 Price $149.00

so the 1.6 can be installed for only 150 plus the cost of the engine?

It is not quite that simple. I think there are a few other things:
  • If you get a 1.6L 16-valve engine, you also have to go with a wiring upgrade and a VSS upgrade on your speedo. You can do the wiring yourself, but you'll also need the 1.6L ECM. The 16V engine most likely won't fit under your hood, so you will need to do a body lift (1/2"). A lot of people have trailtough fix their wiring harness for them ($300 or so, IIRC)
  • If you go with an 8-valve engine, you can swap the 1.3 manifold onto it and keep the carburetor. That means no wiring upgrades. If you go with the manifold on the 8-valve engine, I think you have some wiring and ECM upgrades to contend with. It's possible taht you'll need a slight body lift with this engine, too.
  • There might also be starter issues - you might need a 1.6L starter.
Hopefully others will correct any mis-information, I'm pulling most of this from memory.

You could always go search at ww.zuwharrie.com. there is a TON of info on engine swaps over there in the technical sections.

you do not need the vss to run, just to get 100% efficency.

without the vss, i understand that the ECM operates in the closed or limp mode. If that is the case, then that is a pretty substantial penalty according to what I have read, both in terms of overall engine performance and fuel economy.

I would hate for someone to think that they can just ignore that part of the swap.

I don't know if this is true or not, but when I called Trail Tough they said that keeping the 2.0l cool in a Sammi, where sustained rpm's are needed (mud and snow), can be an issue. The fellow suggested a 16v is a better trail engine swap and and 2.0l is a better dd engine. Anyone comment on this?
Let's assume one is swapping the engine into a Sammi engine bay, not a tube buggy.
