CalMini Rubicon trip
Does anyone actually go on the CalMini Customer Appreciation run? I don't plan on going, as I am not a customer of theirs. Just wondering.

Evidently SOMEBODY does, but shoot, you'd think they would actually invite their customers... I've thrown thousands of dollars their way, and never gotten so much as a "thank you" - I've got to go digging on the internet to find out when their "customer appreciation" run is...

Actually its the weekend after the weekend after Labor Day, so Sept 13-15. I'm going, and while a distributer, I really don't have many Calmini parts on my vehicle, but in years past its more go have fun with a group of Suzuki's, talk about what you like and dislike, play some Games sponsored by Zukiworld.com, and get a free dinner. Its also been the least competitive run I've ever been on, and I've been a lot of place's. I think the first year I went there were 22 suzuki's and a Isuzu. I know its advertised on the Zukiworld.com website, its on teh Calmini site, and its on Izook as well I believe.

Don't get too hung up on the 'customer appreciation' part of the trip. It's the Rubicon; it's fun. Just come and have a good time. We're all a bunch of fun loving zukesters doing what we love best. This is a great run for people that enjoy adventure, fun, and the challenge that the TRAIL provides.
All the trip details are at ZUKIWORLD http://www.zukiworld.com Hope to see you there! -Eric

I took an X90 thru Rubicon (S.O.R.) this year with only 30" tires. Only had 2.5" of suspension lift on it. Skipped the Little Sluice and had a bit of trouble at the first obstacle..... but other than that it did excellent for the whole trip.
4" and 31's on a Samurai should have no trouble. |

Yah.... first rock, first obstacle, front birfield snapped. Bum luck.
I ran down to Rancho Cordova and picked up spares. Since I had the extra axles the rest of the trip though, nothing happened. The thing got around better than I had expected and probably surprised those we were wheeling with as well. Weld the trunk shut? I need that extra 2 Cu.Ft. of storage space! I did chicken out of Little Sluice with it..... on the other hand though, it did tow a trailer across the Nevada desert pretty easily at 70+ MPH with A/C and Cruise control on. Its a trade-off I guess. |

Yeah, I think your friend can make it. They might bounce around a bit and get some body damage but it is definitely do-able with a rig set up like that. Plus, there is a high entertainment value in watching an open rig with no gears trying to tackle the sluices. ![]() Hope to see you there... -Eric
